Jenna Ortega, the star of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, has revealed that the second season will feature a lot more horrific elements.
Two years ago, a new series took the streaming platform by storm, conquering the hearts of viewers around the world: Wednesday was born. Derived from the Addams Family universe, the program follows its eponymous character, Wednesday Addams, in her investigation into a mystery that has been plaguing her boarding school for ages.
The first season quickly became one of the streaming giant’s most-watched works. Unsurprisingly, the announcement of a new season has fallen. And recently, star Jenna Ortega, who plays the title role, announced that this new part would include many more horrific scenes.
Wednesday Season 2 Should Be Scarier Than Ever
During an interview with Laverne Cox for E! on the Emmys red carpet, Jenna Ortega gave Wednesday fans a preview of what they can expect to have for season 2.
“I got a few scripts for the second season, and we’re definitely moving towards a little more horror,” Ortega explained, “It’s really, really exciting because throughout the series [Wednesday] doesn’t never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her.”
“There are some really good lines and I think everything is bigger. There will be a lot more action. Each episode will feel more like watching a movie.”
Season 1 of Wednesday already leaned towards horror, the main plot of the series revolving around a monstrous creature that killed people with all its might.
And, while the series had no problem showing the murders in some forms, it clearly left out some of its scarier elements, with the story focusing more on Wednesday’s interactions with her peers.
But love triangles are over! In any case, this is what Jenna Ortega announced to Elle Fanning during their conversation as part of Variety Actors on Actors: according to actress, season 2 will “abandon the romances for Wednesday” , to favor a more horrific direction.
However, Wednesday fans can rest assured: the series will not take itself too seriously according to the words of the main actress. Season 2 will return to its “light” tone because it’s “a show with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, [so] you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”
No release date has been officially confirmed at this point, but Wednesday season 2 is expected to premiere around April 2024 on Netflix.
