In Team Ninja’s Fallen Dynasty role-playing game Wo Long, players will see a constant stream of weapons and armor flowing into their inventory. With a loot system similar to Nioh, players will constantly be rummaging through new gear in hopes of finding better items. However, even with a rarity system that significantly increases the quality of unique items, the only way to make good gear great is with an upgrade system.
In Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, weapon and armor upgrades are based on the blacksmith character Zhu Xia. The player first encounters him on the battlefields, and then moves on to his permanent location in the Hidden Village. No matter when or where the player finds it, if they have the necessary materials, they can improve their equipment.
Where can I upgrade weapons and armor in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty?
You can upgrade your weapons and armor in the second part of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. About halfway through the first stage, you will encounter a female character with a large hammer. When you approach her, a “Talk” prompt will appear, leading to a conversation about her desire to become a blacksmith and if she has a permanent home to do so. This is Zhu Xia, the blacksmith. She will be in the same place every turn until the Hidden Village is unlocked.
How are weapons and armor upgraded in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty?
In all three stages of the second part, the player must find Ru Xia in order to repair their weapons and armor. It is not hidden, but players can walk past it if they are not looking for it. After the player unlocks the Hidden Village, Zhu will remain in the same locations if the player returns; however, now she will open access to her full menu. Before going to the forge of the Hidden Village, Zhu can be found in the following locations:
- After the player defeats the demon Ruan, they can find Zhu in the rocky corridor. She will open her shop after being chatted with twice.
- Zhu can be found just before crossing the first bridge. Starting from the second battle flag scene, turn around and find the blacksmith in the natural alcove behind you.
- The Yellow Sky Demon Fort is located right above the starting point of the scene. In this case, Zhu cannot be skipped, as there are several NPCs present there.
How to upgrade hardware
When players encounter Zhu Xia in the Hidden Village, they should seek her help in upgrading their equipment. Sometimes she will have more than one dialogue line, but after a few interactions, she will start to do her thing.
When you first start the game, you can upgrade your weapons and buy basic equipment. Once you set up your forge in the Hidden Village, the “embedding” system will become available to you as well. This will allow you to remove certain stats from Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty armor and weapons and then replace them with one of the existing sets. The transmogrification system is also available in the game.
To upgrade a weapon or armor, players must first enter the upgrade menu and select the item they want to upgrade. They then need to make sure they have the required materials. Each upgrade level will require its own unique material: steel and leather in the early stages.
Materials are scattered throughout the mission, usually via a loot mechanic. As a reward for completing tasks, you will receive materials of a higher level, and their quality and rarity increase as the difficulty increases.
Crafting is very easy and the only real problem is deciding what items to spend resources on. More and more low-level crafting materials will appear as you progress through the game, so feel free to try out a few weapons. What seems rare early in the game is often quickly replaced by better gear.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
