In the second season of Peacemaker, audiences are introduced to intriguing alternate dimensions within the DC Universe (DCU).Notably, one of these dimensions features Keith, the younger brother of Christopher Smith, who is portrayed as very much alive.

The first season delved into Peacemaker’s traumatic past, revealing a heart-wrenching incident from his childhood when his father encouraged a fight with his brother, resulting in Chris unintentionally causing Keith’s death.

In the finale of Season 1, Peacemaker expresses his haunting vow: “I don’t kill people for nothing. When my brother died, I vowed that anyone I killed would die for peace, so unlike Keith, no one would ever die for no reason again.” This emotional backdrop sets the stage for an impactful reunion in Season 2, Episode 1, where Chris encounters both his father and Keith in a different reality.

Having been friends with director James Gunn for over two decades, Denman previously appeared in Brightburn, a film produced by Gunn. Reflecting on his collaboration with the acclaimed director, Denman stated, “I’ve always been a fan. James is incredibly talented, and his scripts are outstanding. If you enjoyed Season 1 of Peacemaker, I believe Season 2 surpasses it in every way. It combines humor, drama, and entertainment beautifully.”

He added, “Peacemaker is distinct, and that’s one of James’s strengths. He is precise with his vision for the project. Working with James is a delight, particularly when creating a comedy, in stark contrast to the serious tone in Brightburn.”

In an interview with Fortress of Solitude, Denman discussed how he imagined Keith might have developed had he lived in the original dimension of Peacemaker. He noted the significant differences influenced by their father’s character.

“In the alternate dimension, the father is supportive and nurturing, ” Denman explained, contrasting it with the original where he was abusive and dictatorial.“Had Keith been alive in that environment, I believe he would have continued to protect Chris and, hopefully, have stood up to his father at some point to end the cycle of abuse.”

This perspective on Keith reflects a hopeful narrative arc that could have dramatically reshaped the family dynamics featured in Peacemaker.
