Will a Beloved Character Meet Their Demise in Season 4 of Bridgerton? Writer Shares Insight

After much anticipation, Bridgerton’s writer and showrunner Jess Brownell has addressed the fate of a beloved character in Season 4.

As Bridgerton fans eagerly await the conclusion of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s love story in Season 3, there has been much speculation about what will happen in the upcoming Season 4.

There is speculation surrounding Season 4 about Queen Charlotte’s fate, as the upcoming season will take place around the same time as her real-life counterpart’s death.

Brownell reassured fans that Charlotte was safe in the Bridgerton universe, explaining to TV Line that they have decided to view the show as taking place in an alternate dimension. He praised Golda Rosheuvel’s portrayal of Charlotte and expressed his admiration for her role.

The showrunner elaborated that in the prequel series Queen Charlotte, both Bridgertons took a different direction from historical events when Charlotte and her confidant Lady Danbury made a pact to “collaborate in promoting inclusivity in society.”

“According to Brownell, that’s the point at which we entered a different timeline. This timeline has the possibility of Queen Charlotte living indefinitely.”

The character of Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton is based on the historical figure Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, who was born on May 19, 1744 and passed away on November 17, 1818.

The Queen Charlotte series began in 1761, with the events of Season 1 of Bridgerton taking place 50 years later in the summer of 1813. Season 2 is set one year after Season 1, while Season 3 focuses on the marriage market of 1815.

There has been speculation about whether the show would accurately depict Charlotte’s timeline, as she passed away several months prior to the birth of her granddaughter, the future Queen Victoria, on May 24, 1819. This was shown briefly at the end of Queen Charlotte’s storyline.

Thankfully, both shows have deliberately blended real world elements with their fictional counterparts in order to develop characters based on real individuals, such as Charlotte.

Tom Verica, the director of episodes for both Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte, clarified, “While our retelling of the story is fiction, we made sure to pay homage to the true Queen Charlotte and her journey. We thoroughly researched her history and incorporated elements into our narrative to give it authenticity, but we also took creative liberties when necessary.”

It should come as no surprise that the Bridgerton team would deviate from historical accuracy, considering their reputation for making changes from the books.

The third season of Bridgerton is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
