Will there be a Bridgerton Season 4?

The love story between Colin and Penelope has come to an end, as seen in Bridgerton Season 4. However, fans may find some solace in learning about the potential next lead in the Bridgerton series. The question remains: will there be a fourth season?

Ever since Bridgerton was first created, Shonda Rhimes has consistently expressed their intention to adapt all of Julia Child’s Bridgerton-related books. In the third season, Colin finally had his turn in the spotlight as he embarked on a friends-to-lovers journey with Penelope.

It is widely known that the Bridgerton universe is intended to stay faithful to the source material, causing speculation about the possible production of Bridgerton Season 4.

Season 3 provided fans with numerous hints as to who could be the next couple between Francesca and Benedict, while also revealing the potential timeframe for the release of a new season.

Will it happen?

Indeed, Bridgerton Season 4 is in the works, as Netflix confirmed in 2021 that both Season 3 and Season 4 were approved for production.

Netflix has officially renewed Bridgerton for Seasons 3 and 4, indicating that Season 4 is definitely in the works. The only question now is who will be at the helm when it’s announced.

Rhimes has been the driving force behind bringing the Regency era to life and further developing the beloved characters. She has not only overseen all seasons of the Bridgerton romances, but also the popular prequel series Queen Charlotte.

In a conversation with Variety, Rhimes confirmed her intention to adapt all eight original books for Netflix through her production company, Shondaland.

Betsy Beers, a production partner of many years, expressed her desire for Bridgerton to continue to be available for all of its fans, even as she ages and may have to gum her food as a granny.

The main concern is whether Bridgerton Season 4 will remain faithful to the upcoming book. In Season 3, there were alterations made to the original plot, such as Penelope’s speech and the direction of Francesca’s character arc.

When could it come out?

Unfortunately, Bridgerton fans will have to wait at least two more years as Season 4 of the popular series will not be released anytime soon.

Despite being a highly anticipated franchise, Bridgerton has faced inconsistencies with its release schedule. While Season 1 debuted at the end of December 2020, fans had to wait two years for the premiere of Kate and Anthony’s story in Season 2 on Netflix in March 2022.

Bridgerton Season 3 was released in two parts for its 2024 release. The first part was released on May 16, followed by the second part in June, showcasing the show’s initiative to split the season.

Despite the exciting news that Bridgerton Season 4 has been officially confirmed, fans will have to exercise patience before the new storyline is revealed. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jess Brownell explained that the process of creating each season requires a significant amount of time.

“Despite our efforts to expedite the release of new seasons, the filming process takes eight months and is followed by editing and dubbing into multiple languages,”she explained. “In addition, the writing process is also time-consuming, resulting in a two-year timeline. We are continuously striving to increase our pace, but it falls within this range.”

Bridgerton is a sizable production, as it requires a significant amount of attention to detail. This includes creating intricate embroidered gowns and costumes, as well as composing string quartet arrangements for popular music hits.

It takes a lot of time and effort to design and create the Queen’s intricate wigs. Golda Rosheuvel, who plays Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton, shared that her character’s motorized swan wig in Season 3 Episode 4 was in the making for two years.

At this point, fans can only anticipate an official announcement revealing which Bridgerton will take center stage in the upcoming season.

Who’d be in the cast?

Viewers can anticipate the return of key members of the main cast, including Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, and Will Tilston, for the highly anticipated fourth season of Bridgerton. Keep reading to find out who else is expected to make a comeback:

  • Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton
  • Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton
  • Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma
  • Hannah Dodd as Francesca Bridgerton
  • Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Bridgerton
  • Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton
  • Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton
  • Luke Thomspon as Benedict Bridgerton
  • Golda Rocheuvel as Queen Charlotte
  • Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury
  • Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton
  • Will Tilston as Gregory Bridgerton
  • Hugh Sachs as Brimsley

Despite the departure of Season 1 actors Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page, who felt their characters Daphne and Simon’s arcs had reached their conclusion, Bridgerton has a knack for bringing back beloved couples from the past.

According to People, Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey, who play the roles of Anthony and Kate in Bridgerton Season 3, are not yet ready to bid farewell to their recurring characters as the heads of the Bridgerton household.

“During the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, the actor expressed her love for her character Kate and her on-screen relationship with Anthony. She also mentioned that both she and Johnny are committed to making their schedules work in order to continue bringing these beloved characters to life.”

It is possible that Penelope and Colin, who are now married and have produced a male heir for the Featherington house, will reappear as supporting characters in Season 4.

It is highly likely that Gemmell will return to her role as the Bridgerton matriarch. However, Benedict, Hyacinth, Gregory, and Eloise are still unmarried.

Bridgerton Season 3 and Its Implications for Season 4

Fans are eagerly anticipating that Bridgerton Season 4 will finally delve into Benedict’s romantic relationship with Sophie Bennett. The season has hinted that Benedict may be open to taking things further.

Benedict has always prioritized finding himself over searching for romance. As depicted in Bridgerton Season 3, he bravely delved into his emotions for the widowed Lady Tilley Arnold and embarked on a journey of self-discovery through his relationship with her and her friend Paul.

Despite the Season 3 finale teasing that Benedict may be the next romantic plotline, Brownell has confirmed that his relationship with Sophie is still a possibility. Additionally, Eloise informs her brother that she cannot skip their mother’s grand masquerade ball.

In Benedict’s standalone novel, he crosses paths with Sophie at the masquerade ball. Brownell revealed in an interview with The Wrap that they are laying the groundwork for potential plotlines that could make any of the characters the protagonist for Season 4.

Bridgerton Season 3 marked the start of Francesca’s romantic journey with John Stirling, which culminated in their marriage. However, the showrunner surprised viewers by incorporating Michaela Stirling, previously known as Michael Stirling in the books.

Fans are well-informed of the fact that Francesca’s love story is a tumultuous one, as it involves the tragic death of John due to a brain aneurysm, her struggles with infertility, and her newfound attraction towards Michaela. It is possible that her story may be concluded in Season 4 of Bridgerton, either alongside Benedict’s or in a future season.

In addition, it should be noted that Eloise departed for Scotland with Francesca in Season 3’s finale. It is improbable that her individual journey will unfold in Season 4.

According to Brownell’s statement to The Wrap, it is possible that she will eventually open up to love, but the creators have some plans for her character before she is ready for that.
