Microsoft Releases August 2025 Patch Tuesday Update for Windows 10
On August 12, 2025, Microsoft announced the launch of Windows 10 builds 19045.6216 for version 22H2 and 19044.6216 for version 21H2 as part of their Patch Tuesday updates. These builds come equipped with essential stability improvements and targeted fixes that enhance the overall performance and security of the operating system.
Key Changes in the Latest Builds
- Stability enhancements across the board.
- Fixes related to the Extended Security Updates (ESU) enrollment wizard, addressing user difficulties with the “Enroll now”button.
- Introduction of
SKUSiPolicySecure Boot protections, designed to prevent the rollback of vulnerable system files.
According to official documentation, the August updates do not present any new features. Instead, they focus on detailed security enhancements and fixes for previously reported issues.
Enhanced Security Features
The August update notably introduces the ability to implement WeUSiPolicy VBS Anti-rollback protections. This distinctive feature enhances the security layers of the system by leveraging the Secure Boot’s AvailableUpdates registry key.
The SKUSiPolicy.p7b is a policy signed by Microsoft that effectively blocks the loading of outdated or vulnerable system files. This measure is crucial for safeguarding against potential attacks that exploit admin privileges to revert systems to earlier, more vulnerable versions of files. Once enforced, this policy secures the device’s UEFI firmware, ensuring that it remains effective even through system reboots.
Moreover, this month’s update addresses known stability issues that arose post-installation of the May 2025 security update and refreshes the Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA) profiles.
Support for Older Windows Versions
Microsoft has also extended updates to earlier versions of Windows 10, including:
- KB5063877 for version 1809, upgrading to build 17763.7678 with various fixes.
- KB5063871 for version 1607, which increases the build to 14393.8330 while correcting issues associated with the DHCP Server feature.
- KB5063889 for version 1507, enhancing internal functionality through security improvements.
Installation Guidelines
To download and install the latest quality updates for Windows 10, access the “Windows Update” settings, enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option, and click on “Check for Updates”. Note that it may take some time for updates to appear due to staggered rollout processes by Microsoft.
End of Support for Windows 10
Microsoft has confirmed that support for Windows 10 will officially conclude on October 14, 2025. While the company continues to roll out maintenance updates until that date, users should be aware that after October 2025, there will be no further security updates, feature enhancements, or technical support. This transition may expose the system to increased security risks and performance issues.
If you wish to stay current with Windows, consider upgrading to Windows 11 or exploring alternatives like Linux Mint. Microsoft has also made Extended Security Updates (ESU) available, initially intended for enterprises, now offered to individual consumers seeking to continue using Windows 10.
