Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Builds 27975 and 27971 in Canary Channel

Microsoft has announced the rollout of Windows 11 build 27975 to participants in the Windows Insider Program’s Canary Channel. This specific update focuses on bug fixes and general enhancements; it does not correlate with any forthcoming version of the operating system.

Alongside build 27975, the company recently launched build 27971. This earlier release, in addition to various fixes, featured the ability to access the Notification Center on secondary monitors.

Key Updates in Build 27975

According to the official release notes, several crucial fixes are included in build 27975:

  • Resolves issues with the launch reliability of the touch keyboard.
  • Addresses problems with Windows Hello PIN failing on this channel.
  • Fixes an issue causing the Settings app to crash when accessing Storage settings.

However, users should note that there are known issues, such as unexpected scrolling to the top in the Start menu and potential problems with sleep and shutdown functions in this build.

Enhancements in Build 27971

Build 27971 introduced a noteworthy feature allowing users to open the Notification Center flyout from secondary monitors by merely clicking on the date and time area in the System Tray. Additionally, you can now enable a clock display in the Notification Center flyout by turning on the “Show time in Notification Center” option found within the “Date & time” settings page.

Additional Fixes and Improvements

The Windows 11 build 27971 also included significant patches aimed at improving the user experience:

  • Prevented crashes in File Explorer.
  • Resolved the absence of media controls on the Lock screen.
  • Addressed issues related to the microsoft.ink.dll and associated APIs affecting pen and handwriting functionality.
  • Fixed issues with playing protected content and starting Hyper-V virtual machines on ARM64 devices utilizing a Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

How to Download the Latest Preview Build

If you wish to download and install the latest Windows 11 build, you should enroll your device in the Canary Channel through the Windows Insider Program settings found in the “Update & Security” section of your system. Once enrollment is complete, you can access the latest build via the “Windows Update” settings by activating the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.
