Windows 11 December 2025 Update: Notable Features and Issues
Microsoft has begun rolling out its December 2025 update for Windows 11, featuring builds 26200.7309 for version 25H2 and 26100.7309 for version 24H2. While this update aims to enhance user experience with a refreshed dark mode for File Explorer, it has inadvertently introduced a significant bug.
File Explorer Bug: A Major Glitch
Following the installation of the latest update (KB5070311), users have reported encountering a glaring white flash when opening File Explorer in dark mode. This issue has been acknowledged by Microsoft, which stated:
“After installing KB5070311, you might experience issues when opening File Explorer in dark mode. The window might briefly display a blank white screen before loading files and folders.”

Expanded Dark Mode Support
Despite the bugs, the update does come with significant improvements. Microsoft has expanded dark mode support to several system dialogues within File Explorer, including those for copy, move, delete, and error prompts. This shift aims to better align with the overall system dark theme. Notably, progress bars, charts, and confirmation dialogs for actions such as skipping and overriding have received visual enhancements to address inconsistencies throughout the OS.
Additional Issues and Quality Control Concerns
Microsoft also mentions another issue: the password icon may be missing from the Lock Screen sign-in options, which could present a challenge for users who depend on password authentication methods.
As Microsoft works diligently to roll out fixes, concerns regarding quality control are intensifying. Users and experts alike are questioning why such bugs did not surface during the Windows Insider Program’s Release Preview Channel, which is designed to identify stability issues before releases go public.
Managing Updates
For users who prioritize system stability, it’s essential to maintain awareness of these issues. Microsoft allows for the pausing or complete disabling of automatic updates until resolutions are released.
Other Features of the Cumulative Update
Apart from these challenges, the December 2025 cumulative update enriches the user experience with several new features. The Windows Search panel has been resized to match the aesthetics of the new Start menu, and users can conveniently alter Spotlight wallpapers directly from the desktop context menu.
Furthermore, Microsoft is introducing a feature to disable the Drag Tray, along with more keyboard and mouse functionalities being transitioned from the Control Panel to the Settings app. The Mobile Devices options have also been integrated into the Settings experience.
Additions to the “About”settings page enhance the user interface, a new “Virtual Workspaces” page allows for easier control over virtualization features, and the Xbox Full Screen Experience is now available on more handheld devices. Another highlight is the revamped Widgets dashboard, complete with additional features and improvements.
