CD Projekt RED is reportedly preparing to unveil an exciting final expansion for The Witcher 3, or potentially a standalone installment, as the studio gears up for the next saga in the franchise. This new offering promises to explore uncharted territory, providing a bridge for fans eager for more tales set in the beloved universe.
Even after more than a decade since its initial release, The Witcher 3 continues to be celebrated as one of the greatest open-world games. While Geralt’s story seemed complete, players have expressed an ongoing desire for additional content. Excitingly, recent reports suggest that those wishes may finally be fulfilled.
As work on The Witcher 4 progresses with Ciri stepping into the protagonist role, there are whispers that an additional piece of content for The Witcher 3 is still in development. This speculation first surfaced in June 2024, when insider information hinted that developers from Fool’s Theory were engaged in creating downloadable content (DLC) for the acclaimed game.
The idea gained traction in December 2025, when a Noble Securities analyst predicted a surge in sales for the Polish game developer, hinting at the potential release of either a DLC or a standalone expansion. Latest reports further substantiate this anticipation, revealing more details about the likely setting for this new adventure.
Exploring Zerrikania: The Foreseen Setting for The Witcher 3’s Expansion
On January 5, 2026, IGN Poland reported insights into the anticipated expansion. The publication disclosed, “We have a confession to make. We’ve known about work on a potential new expansion for a very long time.” They emphasized that while they had received information from a singular source in the past, it was now becoming more evident that this content was indeed in development.
The consistent feedback they gathered suggested that the developers have shown a considerable interest in the mysterious land of Zerrikania.

If these reports hold any weight, players can expect a shift from the lush environments of past expansions to the more parched landscapes of desert regions. Zerrikania, albeit frequently referenced, remains largely unexplored in the The Witcher universe. This new setting could introduce vast deserts and the unique cultures, including dragon-worshipping cults, that inhabit this intriguing locale.
As of now, CD Projekt RED has not officially commented on any future content for the The Witcher series beyond The Witcher 4. Nevertheless, with rumors suggesting a 2026 release for this final expansion, fans may not have to wait long for further announcements.
