Wizards of the Coast Refuse Highly-Requested Early Ban for MTG Nadu Card

Wizards of the Coast Refuse Highly-Requested Early Ban for MTG Nadu Card

Despite causing issues for players and dominating the competitive scene of Magic: The Gathering, Nadu from Winged Wisdom will not be receiving an emergency ban, as announced by Wizards.

Despite being the latest addition to the Horizons sets, Modern Horizons 3 lived up to its predecessors by bringing a surge of highly potent cards to Magic: The Gathering’s formats.

Ever since the set was released, there has been a surge in the prices of hyper-powerful one-drops, while also seeing the resurgence of the Eldrazi archetype thanks to the addition of numerous powerful new cards.

Despite this, there remains one dominant card that has become synonymous with Modern Horizons 3: Nadu, Winged Wisdom.

Despite not being a major threat in combat, this Simic card excels in providing unrivaled card draw, especially when combined with Equipment that has a 0-cost Equip ability.

Nadu makes it easy for players to sift through their entire deck, whether they are searching for win conditions such as Thassa’s Oracle or building the perfect hand to secure victory in the later stages of the game.

Despite the initial hype surrounding Nadu, it quickly became evident that its power was not to be underestimated with the release of Modern Horizons 3. The deck’s high consistency left very few viable counters, solidifying its dominance.

In the Commander format, Nadu from Winged Wisdom has caused much fear, but it is in Modern, Standard, and other competitive MTG formats where the true problem lies with this card.

Nadu is not only a highly sought-after choice for both casual and tournament Magic, but it is also frequently the only viable option in competitive play.

Tournaments such as Pro Tour Modern Horizons have consistently featured this card as the dominant force in the final brackets, with multiple instances of the top 8 finalists utilizing a Nadu deck.

Despite the potential for Nadu to make Magic’s current formats repetitive, Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that they will not implement any emergency bans to address the card.

As confirmed by Wizards of the Coast, the next official Banned and Restricted announcement for Magic will be on August 26. They have stated that the date for this announcement will not be altered and there will be no additional bans issued outside of the regularly scheduled announcement.

Adhering to predetermined dates provides Magic players with a sense of consistency and assurance that their creations will not be unexpectedly taken away from them.

Nevertheless, players are still faced with at least one more month of Nadu’s domination since there are no off-cycle bans in effect.

Hopefully, with the debut of Bloomburrow, MTG players will gain access to a variety of strong deck options, replacing a format that heavily favors one card.

Despite its overwhelming dominance and consistent performance, it is inevitable that Nadu, Winged Wisdom will eventually face a ban. However, it appears that August will be the earliest opportunity to address this issue.
