Engrossed in scrolling through Instagram and charging her phone, Henderson experienced a shocking and life-threatening incident in Russellville, Alabama.
The Unlikely Occurrence of Being Struck Indoors
Lightning strikes are often perceived as a distant fear for many, particularly when indoors, as people generally believe that being inside a house offers protection from such natural events. However, this belief did not protect Lisa Henderson on that fateful day.
While she was focused on her phone, she suddenly heard a thunderous lightning strike followed by a loud pop. In an interview with WHNT News 19, she described her shocking experience: “I heard the lightning strike, and then I heard a loud pop, and all I heard was ringing in my ear. I felt like stinging and stuff from my fingers to here. Feels like I stuck a fork in a light socket. After that, I couldn’t comprehend things, and I started crying for 5 minutes.”
Emergency Response and Hospital Visit
Following the strike, Henderson’s fiancé quickly dialed 911, and she was transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, she has little recollection of the ambulance ride, only remembering her struggle to recall her name during that time. Medical professionals later confirmed that Henderson was “lucky” to have survived, as the electric current did not reach her heart, significantly reducing the potential damage from the strike.
Reflecting on her close call, she stated, “I threw my phone away during the strike. If I would’ve kept it, I could’ve been electrocuted even more than I was.” This decision highlights the importance of awareness when using devices during a storm.
A Surprising Repeat Experience
This incident was not a first for Henderson; she revealed that she had previously been struck by lightning as a child. Despite the severity of the situation, she has approached it with humor, sharing her experience on TikTok. Interestingly, her posts have not gone viral, garnering less than 200 views, which may reflect the unusual and complex relationship people have with content about such dangerous occurrences.
