The developers of WWE 2K24 have responded to the community’s widespread backlash and a fan-led social media campaign by reversing the permaban of popular video game content creator WhatsTheStatus.
The popular WWE video game content creator known as ‘WhatsTheStatus’ caused a fan-driven social media movement when 2K Games issued a permanent ban against him for posting “inappropriate content”related to the newest installment, WWE 2K24.
Despite the sudden ban being permanent, it sparked a strong reaction from dedicated fans who launched a social media campaign with the hashtag “Free Status”. This quickly gained traction and garnered more than 13,000 posts.
According to Status, the community’s strong reaction led to the desired outcome, as 2K Games ultimately reached out and reached an agreement with the creator on X (formerly Twitter). As a result, their initial decision to enforce a permanent ban has been overturned.
.@WWEgames & I have met on how my mods can impact the game. We’ve come to an agreement, and a fair one at that. Thank you guys for the support, thanks to all of you, my ban has been lifted. I am free #WWE2K24 pic.twitter.com/s6Ypx7QJIm

On April 17, Status stated, “I have had discussions with WWE games regarding the potential impact of my mods on the game. We have reached a mutually agreeable and fair resolution.”
The well-known content creator proceeded to announce that he was now “released”and expressed his gratitude to fans for uniting and contesting 2K Games’ ruling. He acknowledged, “All of your support has resulted in the lifting of my ban.”
Just a day before, Status provided an update in which he stated his belief that the ban would be permanent and expressed his gratitude for the community’s concern for his content. He also mentioned that he had previously feared people would not care if he was banned, but he was proven wrong and will always remember the support he received.
