WWE 2K26 is set to make waves in the gaming community with the addition of four brand-new match types, including the highly anticipated return of two fan favorites that haven’t been featured in the series for over a decade.
This annual WWE video game release is a highly awaited event for wrestling enthusiasts, and WWE 2K26 is no exception. Previous announcements have indicated that CM Punk will headline the game with an exclusive Showcase mode. However, beyond the starring role, fans can also look forward to a host of exciting updates to the core gameplay.
For many wrestling gamers, the introduction of new match types is one of the most thrilling aspects of each year’s installment. The plethora of match styles throughout wrestling history presents a challenge for developers to pack in every option, especially as game engines continue to evolve. Nevertheless, the anticipated changes for this year promise to spark the excitement of many players.
According to a report from Insider-Gaming, WWE 2K26 will showcase four novel match types, one of which has been notably absent for quite some time.
Exciting New Match Types in WWE 2K26
The details reveal that one of these match types has been in the works for an extended period, though the exact title remains uncertain. Two promising candidates stand out among the roster of new additions.
The first contender is the reimagined I Quit match, which fans last enjoyed in WWE 2K14. Unique to this format, the aim isn’t just to secure submissions; rather, it’s about psychologically overpowering the opponent to the point that they verbally concede. This deeper focus on mental warfare within the ring may have contributed to its lengthy hiatus.

Reemerging after a 13-year absence is the thrilling Inferno Match, where the ring itself is engulfed in flames. Players must unleash their most impactful moves to stoke the fire, aiming for the ultimate victory by igniting their rival.
Additionally, the game introduces the Dumpster Match, which will challenge players to toss their opponents into a dumpster to claim victory—drawing parallels to Casket or Ambulance matches in terms of conceptual design.
Rounding out the new match types is the 3 Stages of Hell match. This format is straightforward; it functions as a two-out-of-three falls match where each fall features a different match type, which may include options like No Disqualification, Tables, Steel Cage, or even the aforementioned match types.
As excitement builds ahead of WrestleMania 42, fans can expect more detailed information to be unveiled in the coming weeks, shedding light on these innovative match types and more features in WWE 2K26.
