XDefiant dev responds to backlash over major movement update

After a significant change to the movement in XDefiant, there has been discontent among players regarding the penalties for jump spamming. While some believe the penalties are inadequate, others believe it has greatly affected the movement. As a result, one of the developers has issued a response.

The promised movement update was finally introduced in XDefiant’s June 12 update to address the issue of jump spamming, commonly known as bunny hopping. The developers opted to penalize players who engage in spam jumping by implementing sway and spread to their weapon after four consecutive jumps.

Despite appearing reasonable initially, this alteration has resulted in dissatisfaction among the XDefiant community. Some view it as inadequate while others deem it excessive.

Despite the fourth consecutive jump being subject to an aim sway penalty, many players have taken to social media to express their thoughts on the matter. Several believe that the penalty should occur after only two jumps, deeming it pointless to have it after four.

This is due to their belief that the player’s constant jumping allows them to execute the maneuver and eliminate an opponent before facing any consequences. However, there are also those who are dissatisfied with the alteration, stating that it has disrupted XDefiant’s high-speed movement, a key aspect that draws players to the game.

As a result, game developer ACHES took to X to respond and offer a more detailed explanation of the movement penalty in XDefiant. According to the dev, the movement penalty was implemented to reduce the overuse of spammy movements while still maintaining the core mechanics.

Once players have completed four jumps, they will begin to notice a gradual increase in ADS sway until it reaches its maximum level. This sway will continue for a duration of 1.25 seconds and can be reset by refraining from jumping during this time. As a result, players are given a total of three penalty-free jumps.

This is the initial version of the movement penalties, and the team aims to preserve the high-speed movement that players have been enjoying in XDefiant. ACHES emphasizes that they will closely observe, listen, and assess the effects of this change for any potential future movement updates.

In the future, XDefiant players can anticipate additional movement adjustments and updates as the developers strive to strike a balance between fast-paced, seamless movement and excessive spam.

In addition to movement changes, the June 12 update for XDefiant also included a nerf for Snipers. This was a response to player feedback about the lack of flinch before Season 1.
