Finally, the highly anticipated Season 2 of XO Kitty has debuted, and one of its stars has shared an emotional experience during filming that left him in tears—though not for the reasons you might expect.
For fans of romantic comedies and K-dramas, XO Kitty comes highly recommended. This delightful spinoff of the To All the Boys film series spotlights Kitty Covey, portrayed by Anna Cathcart, as she journeys to South Korea to enroll in the prestigious Korean Independent School of Seoul, affectionately known as KISS.
Kitty arrives with the hopes of reconnecting with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae (played by Choi Min-youngGia Kim). As Season 2 unfolds, Kitty returns for her second semester, but a surprising letter from her deceased mother propels her into an unexpected adventure. (Caution: minor spoilers follow!)
Emotional Experience on Set
Joining the cast in Season 2 is Joshua Lee, who portrays Jin, a rival of Q (played by Anthony Keyvan) and a character with a somewhat “toxic alpha male” facade. However, Lee revealed that a poignant scene filmed in the courtyard of a palace moved him to tears.
The cast returned to Seoul to film, where breathtaking locations have become a hallmark of the series, including Gyeongbokgung Palace featured in the first season. Lee recalled a particularly remarkable experience during an interview with The Mirror, stating, “For the final episode, they built a stage in the courtyard of a palace, which is absurd. They did such an amazing job, and I just don’t really know how they did that. But I remember we filmed until sunrise.”
He continued, “Perhaps we were a bit delirious and sleep-deprived, but filming at the palace was simply beautiful. It was my last day on set, and I got to witness the sunrise with my fellow cast members, which moved me to tears. It was just that breathtaking.”
Another standout location for Lee was an LGBTQ+ club in Itaewon, where his character’s sexuality is explored in the storyline, leading to a romantic development between him and Q.
“I filmed my first scene at a real queer club in Itaewon, complete with background actors who were patrons or bartenders,” he shared. “The production designers did a phenomenal job, and what a unique way to kick off my role in the show—an experience that I will never forget.”
Currently, XO Kitty Season 2 is available for streaming on Netflix. Don’t miss out on discovering more exciting new TV shows launching this month, as well as what’s on the horizon for 2025.
