On August 15, the charity stream hosted by MrBeast on Kick achieved a groundbreaking milestone, raising an impressive $12 million for Team Water. This event marks a new record for the largest amount ever collected in a single live stream. However, following the broadcast, popular streamer xQc expressed his discomfort regarding the handling of the event after it surpassed its initial fundraising goal.
During a live stream on August 18, xQc candidly shared his feelings, revealing his unease about MrBeast’s choice to keep the fundraiser ongoing beyond the originally set target of $5 million. His concerns focused particularly on the ending of the event and its implications for the donors involved.
xQc’s Concerns About the Charity Stream’s Conclusion
xQc clarified that his frustration was not rooted in the desire to raise additional funds, but rather stemmed from the agreement made with one of the key donors, who contributed a significant amount to help meet the $5 million goal. He stated, “I was a little bit mad at Jimmy for not ending at $5 million because of the way that it was ending. I felt like a scammer a little bit because we’re kind of robbing him out of that thing that he’s donating for.”
The donor in question, known as Hayes, had envisioned his contribution as a means to conclude the live stream. According to xQc, there was an implicit understanding that Hayes’s donation would serve as the final push to wrap up the broadcast. When the stream continued past that point, it created feelings of discomfort for xQc and a sense of betrayal to the donor’s intentions.
“As a person, not as a streamer, I was mad because Hayes was paying money for charity to wrap it up. He wasn’t paying money to charity. He was saying, ‘Oh yeah, I’m closing the gap to end the broadcast.’ It’s not really transactional, but it’s kind of like clearly, he’s paying to be the last guy to end the stream, which is fair enough, ” xQc explained.
Ultimately, xQc noted that this situation compelled him to take a step back and mentally reset for several hours before he could resume his regular streaming activities. While he affirmed his support for the charitable initiatives of the event, he emphasized the importance of honoring commitments made to donors to maintain integrity in future fundraising efforts.
