The new movie, It Ends With Us, which is based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name, features Sklenar in the role of Atlas Corrigan, the ex-love of protagonist Lily Bloom. In addition to starring in the spinoff 1923, Sklenar’s performance in It Ends With Us has been highly praised. However, the movie’s adaptation of the book’s themes, which revolve around domestic violence, has sparked polarizing opinions.
Upon the release of the film, fans were quick to notice the unusual dynamics among the cast during the marketing phase. Many pointed out the perceived tension between the other actors and director Justin Baldoni.
Despite receiving criticism for her lighthearted marketing style and simultaneous promotion of her hair care brand, Blake Lively faced the bulk of the backlash. Furthermore, old interviews have resurfaced, with fans labeling Lively as a “mean girl.”
Despite the film’s delicate subject matter, it was expected that fans would have strong reactions. However, the majority of criticism was directed towards Lively and Hoover, prompting co-star Sklenar to release a statement on Instagram on August 20 in their defense.
Brandon Sklenar’s statement
In his post, he expressed, “Colleen and the rest of the cast embody hope, determination, and the power of women to create a better life for themselves.”
Contrary to the point, it is actually the opposite.
He remarked, “Whatever may or may not have occurred behind the scenes should not diminish the purpose behind creating this film. It is disheartening to witness the overwhelming negativity being expressed on the internet.”
The celebrity also revealed that he had a close friend who had faced similar relationship struggles as Lily’s. Feeling a sense of duty, he wanted to spread this message to a wider audience and mentioned how his friend had credited Colleen’s book and the film adaptation for saving her life.
He continued, assuring, “Every single person involved in the making of this film was fully aware of the responsibility we had. We were responsible not only to the women who have endured generational trauma, domestic abuse, and struggles with self-love, but also to our audience.”
The film serves as a wake-up call for men, urging them to take ownership of their lives and behavior.
This movie serves as a source of inspiration, validation, and recognition. Its purpose is to instill hope and build courage, allowing individuals to feel less alone. Ultimately, it aims to promote love and awareness. It is not intended to portray women as the “bad guy”once again. Let’s move beyond that together.
“His request is simple: before spreading hate on the internet, take a moment to consider who it is benefiting. Reflect on whether your opinions are grounded in fact or if you simply want to join in on something.”
“Join us in creating something greater together – a new narrative that encompasses women and all individuals worldwide. Let us lead with love and spread kindness. Sincerely, Brandon.”
