After polling Yellowstone viewers, it was revealed that an unexpected character from Taylor Sheridan’s Western drama was chosen as the most disliked among fans.
In Taylor Sheridan’s TV show, there are numerous unpredictable and reckless characters. From gun-toting cowboys to an entire law-breaking family, no one is considered to have a strong moral compass. However, among the Yellowstone characters, there is one in particular that fans despise, and surprisingly, it is not one of the main suspects.
Evelyn Dutton, the late wife of John and the deceased mother of the Dutton children, has been absent from the Western series for quite some time. She is often portrayed as a saintly figure, especially by John, who frequently speaks fondly of her and mourns her passing during moments of vulnerability or stress.
Despite Evelyn’s untimely death from a horseback riding accident, she was not entirely blameless. In fact, her cruel treatment of Beth during her childhood is the root cause of the Dutton daughter’s animosity towards those in her life. Before her passing, Evelyn placed the burden of responsibility on Beth, telling her that the accident was her doing. As a result, Beth carries emotional scars into adulthood, all stemming from Evelyn’s unjust accusations before her death.
Despite being remembered as an angel within her family, Evelyn’s negative impact on the Dutton family legacy is well-known among Yellowstone fans.
According to a Reddit user, the family with four children may have differing opinions about their mother’s parenting and horse riding coaching abilities if they were raised by her until adulthood, despite their current admiration for her.
Some individuals concurred, with one user commenting: “I also don’t comprehend why the family portrays her as some kind of holy figure. She caused lasting damage to Beth for something that was entirely the mother’s responsibility.”

According to a comment, the mother’s death scene and storyline gave the impression that she was a narcissist. This, coupled with a toxic family dynamic dominated by narcissism, seemed to be the defining factor in shaping Beth’s character.
However, as the seasons progressed, they portrayed the mother as the stable force for John, the one who was emotionally healthier. This did not align with my initial impressions, as they both seemed equally troubled in the beginning.
