Avowed invites players into a mesmerizing first-person role-playing adventure set within the enchanting realm of Eora. This game places immense importance on player choices, shaping experiences filled with conflict, intrigue, and timeless enigmas.

One of the pivotal quests, titled “An Untimely End, ” unfolds with an unexpected twist. After completing the “Message from Afar, ” players find themselves in the Administration District of Paradis, where a significant encounter with Ygwulf awaits. The climax of this quest revolves around a critical decision: will you choose to end his life, or will you show him mercy?

1. To Kill or Spare Ygwulf in Avowed: An Untimely End Quest

Choosing to spare Ygwulf aligns you with the rebels opposing the corrupt Steel Garrote. This decision, however, is not the only path available to players. Confronting Ygwulf leads to three distinct choices, each offering unique rewards and long-term story consequences.

2. Exploration of Choices Involving Ygwulf

2.1 Sparing Ygwulf

If players opt for mercy, they must remain calm and listen to Ygwulf rather than act aggressively. By sparing him, you will receive valuable rewards: an adra, 625 coins, and Ygwulf’s Key, which grants shortcut access from the cistern.

Upon reaching the Emerald Stair entrance, Ygwulf’s associate, Stecg, hands you a Writ of Passage, enabling safe entry into resistance zones. The rebels in the Riverside Cave camp will express gratitude for your decision to spare Ygwulf. However, remember that betrayal of the rebels remains an option here.

2.2 Attacking Ygwulf

Should you choose aggression, you’ll immediately engage in battle with Ygwulf and his assassins. This encounter can prove to be quite fierce, particularly if you’re unprepared without a shield or adequate area-of-effect (AoE) magic.

Upon victory, players can loot Ygwulf’s body and acquire:

  • Ygwulf’s Key
  • Blackwing Armor
  • 48 gold
  • Health potion

The Blackwing Armor is especially advantageous for stealthy approaches, offering a +30% boost to stealth attack damage and a +25% increase in movement speed while crouching. Conversely, you will receive a Dissident’s Warning from Stecg, which places you at odds with the rebels instead of obtaining the Writ of Safe Passage.

2.3 Forcing Ygwulf to Confess

Another choice involves coercing Ygwulf into confessing to the Steel Garrote, a decision with significant ramifications. If successful, Lodwyn will execute Ygwulf, leading to the rebels killing Garryck in revenge. Consequently, when you reach the Emerald Stair entrance, you will receive the Dissident’s Warning, but no unique rewards for sparing or executing Ygwulf.

Although you will claim Ygwulf’s Key without a confrontation, be prepared for aggression from Paradisan Rebels upon leaving. While you can secure 1, 500 coins at the Embassy, this route results in more amicable interactions with Inquisitor Lodwyn.
