YouTube has introduced a significant policy change aimed at curbing the monetization of “inauthentic”content uploaded by creators on its platform. This move comes as the popularity of monetization tools, particularly through the YouTube Partner Program, has surged. However, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has led to an influx of content that falls short of YouTube’s authenticity standards.

YouTube’s New Guidelines Target Inauthentic Content

The platform has made it clear that creators wishing to earn revenue must produce content deemed “original and authentic.” YouTube emphasizes that videos should focus on providing enjoyment or educational value to viewers, rather than being created merely to attract views.

Your content should be made for the enjoyment or education of viewers, rather than for the sole purpose of getting views.

YouTube acknowledges that reviewers cannot assess every single video individually. Instead, their evaluation focuses on a channel’s overarching theme, including its most popular and recent videos, as well as the content that retains the greatest watch time.

Starting July 15, YouTube is set to refine its guidelines, adopting a more stringent approach to identifying unoriginal content. This update aims to enhance the clarity of what constitutes “inauthentic”material.

In a recent statement, the platform asserted: “In order to monetize as part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), YouTube has always required creators to upload ‘original’ and ‘authentic’ content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube is updating our guidelines to better identify mass-produced and repetitious content. This update better reflects what ‘inauthentic’ content looks like today.”
