YouTube is currently probing reports circulating on social media indicating that Premium subscribers are still encountering advertisements.
Over the past few years, the platform’s approach to advertisements has significantly changed. With measures introduced against ad-blockers and the introduction of ads appearing on video pause screens, many users have expressed dissatisfaction with the dwindling options for an ad-free experience.
The video-sharing giant, owned by Google, provides a premium subscription service designed to eliminate all advertisements. However, numerous users hesitate to pay the monthly fee required to enjoy this benefit. As a result, YouTube is experimenting with a new, more affordable “limited” ad plan, which excludes access to YouTube Music and reduces the frequency of ads.
On Monday, October 21, a user on Reddit remarked that they were still seeing ads on the platform despite holding an active Premium subscription.
The posted screenshot features the YouTube Premium badge in the top left corner, signaling an active subscription, alongside a Google Workspace advertisement occupying the spot where the video player should appear.
Another Redditor reported receiving an advertisement for YouTube’s gaming service, ‘Playables,’ while browsing clips within the Shorts feed.

After noticing these claims, Android Authority contacted YouTube, which then issued a response explaining that they have initiated an investigation into why this advertisement was displayed.
“YouTube Premium members should not be exposed to ads in their home feed, and we are examining the cause of this incident,” the company communicated to the publication. “Additionally, we’ve advised the affected user to reach out to support.”
As per the list of perks available to YouTube Premium subscribers, users are expected to enjoy an ad-free viewing experience on all devices, without interruptions from ads before, during, or after videos.
This news comes shortly after YouTube announced the removal of the sleep timer feature from the Premium subscription model, allowing users worldwide to access it freely.
