On September 3, Chief Prosecutor Yoo Jung-ho of the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office Criminal Division 1 announced that 35-year-old YouTuber A has been charged with defamation and insult under the Information and Communications Network Act. This is in addition to previous charges.
A is facing allegations of uploading videos on her YouTube channel, under the name “Sojang”, from July 2022 to January of the previous year. These videos reportedly contained derogatory comments about the physical appearances of two female members of an idol group.
In August 2022, it was also claimed that she had shared a fabricated video regarding the fan management procedures of a male idol group, resulting in harm to the group’s image and causing disruptions to the agency’s operations.
Nonetheless, the female idol members implicated in this supplementary case are not associated with IVE.
Earlier, A was initially accused of defamation in May for sharing defamatory videos aimed at Jang Wonyoung and six other famous individuals or public figures from October 2021 to June of the previous year.
According to an examination of the YouTube channel’s records, it can be estimated that A made around 250 million KRW (equivalent to $188,000) within a span of two years, from June 2021.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that A had been creating and sharing fabricated videos, such as one accusing Jang Wonyoung of deliberately sabotaging a fellow trainee’s debut due to jealousy, and making false claims about other celebrities engaging in prostitution or undergoing plastic surgery.
