Former Laboum member Yulhee, who was once married to Choi Minhwan, is receiving a mixed bag of reactions following her candid discussions about her personal life, particularly focusing on her divorce.
On October 15, Yulhee (26) is set to feature on the TV Chosun variety show, “Now I’m Alone,”which will delve into her experiences as a single woman post-divorce.
A sneak peek released on the 8th showed the idol in tears, stirring anticipation as she expressed:
“We were such a happy family, and we managed to overcome everything. I once believed that crises like this happen only occasionally.”
Following the teaser, some viewers empathized with her situation and are cheering for her new chapter in life.
Yulhee first gained fame as a member of Laboum in 2014, but she departed the group in 2017 after her relationship with FTISLAND’s Choi Minhwan came to light.
The following year, she stepped back from the entertainment industry after marrying Minhwan and transitioned into full-time motherhood, raising her son and twin daughters.
This family of five was once idolized as a model household. However, fans were heartbroken in December 2023 when Yulhee and Minhwan announced their separation.
At that time, Yulhee relinquished custody of her three children. Later, Minhwan and the kids, excluding Yulhee, participated in KBS 2TV’s “The Return of Superman,”showcasing his life as a single father.
Although Minhwan garnered substantial support, Yulhee faced backlash for her participation in a show that focuses on divorce and parenting narratives.
Controversy arose as viewers expressed concern that Yulhee might be leveraging her divorce for personal gain, seemingly oblivious to the potential impact on their three children. These young kids have already been thrust into the public eye and cannot escape media scrutiny regarding their family situation.
Additionally, some netizens suggested that instead of airing her personal life on television, Yulhee should consider returning to her roots as a K-pop idol to earn a living.
