Zara apologizes for “inappropriate” kids shirt after accusations by TikToker

After a TikToker called out Zara for selling “inappropriate” shirts for minors, the international fashion brand responded by taking the item off shelves.

Laura Wilson, a 32-year-old mother of two, recently expressed her disgust on TikTok after discovering “inappropriate”clothing at Zara. In an interview with the New York Post, she shared that the apparel made her feel “physically sick.”

While browsing in the store, Laura stumbled upon a shirt designed for teenagers. The crew-neck top was white and had black and red writing on the front that said: “The Perfect Snack”and “The Strawberry: A small burst of sweet joy.”

The back of the top, discovered in the girls’ section, also seemed too provocative for the TikToker. It read, “Take a bite and experience a burst of sweet delight, making it the ideal summer treat.”

During a TikTok video, the speaker expressed disbelief over a children’s product and urged parents to have a serious conversation with themselves if they had purchased it. She questioned whether anyone else found the product clearly inappropriate.

@chaos.to.sanity If you think this is wrong – please let me know so i don’t feel crazy… is this wrong? Or not? Personally, I’m disgusted – who is buying this t-shirt for their child?!! #zara #disgusted #foryou #fyp #fypviralシ #makethisviral ♬ original sound – LJ🪬

Zara released an apology and discontinued sales of the controversial top after it went viral.

According to representatives of Zara, the use of the word ‘snack’ on this T-shirt was not meant to suggest anything other than its traditional meaning. This is evident from the inclusion of a strawberry image on the garment.

“Nevertheless, it has come to our attention that the term has been perceived differently by certain individuals. As a result, we have made the decision to remove the T-shirt from our stores and website. We sincerely apologize for any confusion or offense that may have been caused.”

Despite Zara’s decision to take action, numerous netizens expressed their disagreement with Laura’s viewpoint on the shirt.

“It’s simply a strawberry! Your thoughts are perverting it,”stated one person.

Another person wrote, “You seem to interpret things in a sexual manner without any real justification. This is the root cause of our many problems. Everything is misunderstood and overanalyzed. It references ‘THE STRAWBERRY’.”

Several viewers concurred with the TikToker’s statement that the placement and content of the text were excessive.

One person also commented, “What the actual f**k!!! I am completely shocked and disgusted! Zara needs to improve, this is unacceptable.”

In 2024, Chipotle joined Zara in responding to viral controversy. Following numerous complaints on social media about small portion sizes, the popular restaurant also issued a response to its customers in May.

Despite stating that sizes remained the same, they did confirm that they trained their staff to make sure customers will “notice a difference” during their next visit.
