8 anime as powerful as Solo Leveling

Solo Leveling has finally started streaming on Crunchyroll, surprising fans with its polished animation and rhythmic story. But if the story of the anime is unique, we can find similar productions.

The year 2024 has begun for anime, and for now, Solo Leveling is on track to appear in first position among the most followed series< a i=2>. It must be said that after the end of the terrible season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen, there was a need for an anime worthy of the name to occupy spectators lacking dark fantasy.

The A-1 Pictures studio has done its job very well for the moment: between the broadcast date, its exemplary animation, its production as always with great care and the dark story taken from the manhwa of the same name, < /span>. Jinwoo, an outsider who suddenly becomes a powerful monster hunter through a twist of fate, pleased readers of the Korean webtoon. And the spectators are there.Solo Leveling comes through with flying colors

The weekly release has therefore begun, and new fans must already be chomping at the bit, waiting every week for a new episode. Let them rest assured: while waiting for the next installments of Solo Leveling, there are other excellent anime too. We present to you 8, similar to the new production from A-1 Pictures.

1 – Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen and Solo Leveling share many similar themes. Due to the dark side of their story, they both hit hard by embarking on the path of dark fantasy, a very popular genre in the spectator community.

Jujutsu Kaisen could almost do without presentation as it has become so popular in recent times, notably thanks to its season 2 which is as spectacular as it is moving. To summarize, we follow in the footsteps of exorcists responsible for hunting and eliminating scourges, creatures born from human resentments.

Intense fights, colorful characters and a particularly endearing hero: this is what awaits the viewer wanting to discover the evolution of Yuji in the middle of this society of sometimes slightly crazy exorcists.

2 – Tower of God

Tower of God is an underrated gem that deserves the full attention of anyone interested in dark fantasy, combat, and tournaments. The series focuses on Bam, who spends most of his life trapped at the base of a strange tower. One day, he decides to go in to find his friend. And this, even if it means going through terrible tests to climb the ladder – and the floors.

The anime is also spectacular, and is very similar to Solo Leveling in its atmosphere and story. We are talking here about outsiders, who have become much more powerful over time.

3 – Overlord

Overlord, like several other anime on this list, is inspired by a video game genre: the MMORPG. The protagonist, Ainz, finds himself transported into a video game world, in which all the NPCs (non-player characters, or AI) have become alive. Ainz then uses his knowledge of the game to gain power and survive his new environment.

The video game side is very similar to that of Solo Leveling: because Jinwoo also uses an interface similar to what one could find in an RPG to level up and therefore gain strength.

4 – Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer is also a famous anime series, known for its perfectly balanced rhythm and especially its intense fights with splendid animation. We follow Tanjiro Kamado, son of a simple coal seller, whose destiny changes overnight.

His family decimated, he decides to become a demon slayer. But he does not do it without reason: his real objective is to save his sister, the only survivor of the horrible attack, and unfortunately transformed into a monster. As in Solo Leveling, there are fights that are worth the detour, but also the family ties linking Jinwoo to his sister and his mother.

5 – Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man and Solo Leveling feature weak protagonists who each gain ground in their respective universe. Thus, Denji from Chainsaw Man obtains demonic powers from a little demon named Pochita, while Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling receives powers from to a powerful entity during a mission gone wrong in a dungeon.

Chainsaw Man takes place in a world where demons exist, created by humanity’s worst fears. Denji tries to make a living by hunting them, but he is weak and barely manages to survive, buried in utter poverty. It is only after his death that his little pet demon Pochita saves him by merging with him: Denji then becomes the chainsaw demon.

6 – Death Note

Death Note features Light Yagami, a physically weak hero with great intelligence. After obtaining a notebook offering him the power of life or death under certain conditions, the protagonist decides to take on the role of vigilante.

The battles are mental more than physical, but are no less spectacular. The cynical characters observe their environment and enjoy losing their adversaries (and spectators) in endless traps. It’s just as dark as Solo Leveling, and the morals of the characters are often undermined, very often questioning his audience on the subject of good and evil.

7 – Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online focuses on virtual reality worlds created by several companies. In the anime, you explore unique game worlds, including one that plays with classic RPG elements. Just like in Solo Leveling, the protagonist must often comply with the rules of the games to evolve and improve their skills or equipment.

8 – Goblin Slayer

Goblin Slayer focuses on a protagonist whose only goal is to eliminate the slightest goblin who dares to breathe the same air as him. At first solitary, he eventually joins a group of adventurers sharing the same aspirations, and the visits to dungeons multiply as much as the pile of corpses of the monsters passed over their blades.

As with Solo Leveling, we are told the color from the introduction: it is raw and cold, and the characters are not sheltered from the cruelty of the monsters they face. Warning to anyone who allows himself to underestimate his adversary, because he could encounter death at the bottom of the tunnels, or even worse.

So much for anime resembling Solo Leveling! And if that’s not enough, there’s always our selection of animated series not to be missed for the start of the winter 2024 season.. a>
