Actor in His 40s Arrested for Assaulting People Who Reported His Drunk Driving to Police

The Seoul Seongdong Police Station indicted an actor in his 40s on July 9th for assault. The actor is a talent who was recruited by a terrestrial broadcasting station.

According to the police, A consumed alcohol at a restaurant in Gangnam-gu, Seoul at approximately 3:40 a.m. on July 2nd before driving a distance of 3km to his residence in Seongdong-gu. His blood alcohol concentration was found to be at a level that would result in the revocation of his driving license.

Additionally, A is also being charged with assault for choking the individuals who attempted to contact the authorities after suspecting A of driving under the influence.

During a conversation with MBC, A revealed that after consuming half a bottle of soju with acquaintances, he was unable to secure a proxy driver and drove home alone. He also admitted to driving under the influence when the police arrived. However, upon exiting his car, he was approached by individuals with tattoos who threatened to report him to the media. In an attempt to escape, he did not cause any harm and has since filed a countersuit against them.

The authorities proceeded to press charges against A for drunk driving and are currently reviewing CCTV footage to investigate the allegations of assault.

If A causes harm to someone while driving under the influence of alcohol and flees the scene, he will be held accountable under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. In the event that his license is revoked and the victim sustains injuries, A could potentially face a prison sentence of over one year or a fine ranging from 5 million to 30 million won.

Despite efforts to curb them, drunk driving accidents are still occurring at a high rate.

On the 9th, a female police officer was caught driving under the influence after abandoning her vehicle and attempting to escape a police check. According to reports, at around 1:30 a.m. on the 6th, she was seen driving drunk near Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do. The police pursued her as she abandoned her car and fled to a nearby park. The female officer’s blood alcohol concentration at the time was above the legal limit for driving, resulting in the revocation of her license. As a result, the police are considering terminating her employment and investigating whether any other officers who were drinking with her also engaged in drunk driving.
