Summary

How to catch magical creatures

If certain creatures from Hogwarts Legacy will be “offered” to you during your progression – like Skywing, you will generally have to use your Capture Bag to save the creatures you encounter.

You will obtain the Bag of Capture from the house elf Cheek after passing the first Guardians’ test.

In order to capture a magical creature, go to a lair, find your target and use the bag by placing it in your spell bar. Depending on the species of creature desired, the process takes more or less time.

In order to capture the toughest creatures, like the unicorn or the Hippogriff, we advise you to use Levioso to hold the creature in place while you suck it up with your bag.

How to Breed Magical Creatures

Your magical creatures are obviously not destined to end their days stuck in your bag. After capturing a few creatures with Cheek, a new room will appear in the Room of Requirement: the Vivarium.

In this magnificent environment, you will be able to release and observe no less than 12 creatures, with a maximum of 4 different species. As you capture new species, new vivariums will open in the Room of Requirement. There are 4 in total, each with a different theme.

In your vivariums you can feed and brush your creatures. Once these two actions have been carried out, a creature will offer you its resource which will be very useful for improving your equipment.

Also note that you can summon a feeder in each Vivarium. This way, your creatures will be able to feed themselves and you will only have to worry about brushing.

How to Breed Magical Creatures

What’s more fun than a Boursouf? A baby Boursouf, of course!

In order to breed your creatures, you must complete the second Guardian trial and return to Cheek. The latter will then unlock access to the Breeding Enclosure Creasort, which you can then purchase in Hogsmeade for 1000 Galleons.

After purchasing the Creasort, return to your Vivarium and summon the enclosure. If you have two creatures of the same species and different sexes, then you can make it breed! The process lasts 20 minutes, after which a baby will join your Noah’s Ark!

Where to find every magical creature in Hogwarts Legacy

There are no less than 13 species of magical creatures that can be captured in Hogwarts Legacy. While some are very easy to obtain, others might give you a hard time.

To find a Focifera lair, go to the southern area of the map.

The essential thieving creature from Fantastic Beasts is of course present in Hogwarts Legacy.

There are plenty of Niffler lairs, but you’ll have to travel a long way from Hogwarts Castle to find them.

The Diricos – or Dodo according to Muggles – are birds capable of teleporting when in danger.

Most of Dirico’s lairs are in the southern part of the map. The use of Levioso or Arresto Momentum is particularly recommended to catch these birds which are constantly teleporting.

Unicorn

There is only one Unicorn Lair in Hogwarts Legacy. To find it, start from Campold-en-Haut (the village north of Hogsmeade) and head west.

When you reach the Forbidden Forest, you will be very close to the Unicorn’s nest. This lair only accommodates one unicorn, and that’s why you’ll have to come back several times to hope to have a couple of these magnificent creatures.

Sombral

Despite their morbid reputation, Thestrals are incredible companions who fully deserve their place in your vivarium.

There are only two Thestral lairs. The easiest to find is in the far northeast of the map, in the heart of the North Ford Marshes.

Hippogriff

The magnificent Hippogriffs are rare creatures, of which there are very few nests. The easiest to find is near the village of Feldcroft. Go east until you reach a lake. Hippogriff’s lair is located slightly west of this lake.

Catching a Hippogriff is a laborious ordeal, and it is essential to use Levioso or Arresto Momentum well to hope for a successful capture.

Phoenix

Phoenix in Hogwarts Legacy
Avalanche Software

There’s no point looking for a Phoenix lair, since there simply aren’t any in Hogwarts Legacy. Indeed, this legendary bird is unique, and you can only obtain it via the quest concluding the story arc of the house elf Cheek.

To do this, you must first have completed the first 3 Guardian events, in addition to having obviously helped Cheek in his previous missions.

Grapcorne

Graphorn dans Hogwarts Legacy
Avalanche Software

The Graphorn is the largest magical creature in Hogwarts Legacy. Unfortunately, you will have to progress a lot in the game before you can capture her… and even climb on her back!

Defeating and capturing the powerful Lord of the Shores is an integral part of the 4th Guardian Trial. After catching this first Graphorn, you can return to this same lair in the far southeast of the map to catch more of these creatures.

To catch a Grapcorn, it is always necessary to defeat it. Once done, simply take out the Capture Bag and that’s it!
