Apple’s Explanation for Removing Game Boy Emulator from App Store

Despite its immediate success and top position on the recommended list, Apple has announced the reasoning behind their decision to remove the iGBA Game Boy Emulator from the App Store.

Following Apple’s update of its App Store regulations to permit emulators, iPhone users eagerly anticipated the release of the first one.

The iGBA Game Boy Emulator was one of the first emulators to be uploaded, and it was soon discovered that it had similarities to another emulator known as GBA4iOS.

iGBA rapidly climbed the ranks of popular apps following its release, but it was taken down within 24 hours of gaining widespread attention.

According to a statement given to MacRumors, Apple disclosed that the reason for the removal of iGBA was due to its resemblance to GBA4iOS, which was deemed a ripoff.

In a post on Threads, Riley Testut, the developer of GBA4iOS, expressed his frustrations regarding the app’s addition to the App Store.

According to Riley, a knock-off of GBA4iOS, the precursor to Delta that they created in high school, has been approved by Apple and is now available in the App Store. Despite not giving permission for this, the knock-off is currently at the top of the charts and is filled with ads and tracking.

“I have held my tongue multiple times in the past month, but this situation truly infuriates me. I am grateful for the existence of App Review, as it serves to safeguard consumers from deceitful schemes and frauds such as this.”

Riley clarified that he holds no anger towards the developer of iGBA, but rather towards Apple’s recent shift in perspective on emulators.

“The source of my frustration was solely due to the fact that we were fully prepared to launch Delta last month. This entire situation could have been prevented if Apple had not delayed our approval until after they made changes to their rules allowing for emulators,”he stated.
