As one Baldur’s Gate 3 player discovered, it looks like you can practically skip Act 1, and some interesting things happen when you do.
Skipping Act 1 in Baldur’s Gate 3 requires care because you don’t level up as quickly as if you went through Act as planned. “Skip” can also be a generous word to use because you don’t miss everything in the Act.
There are large chunks of content that you can simply skip, which takes you straight to Mountain Pass and the Shadowlands. A player tested all of this in Honor Mode.
A Baldur’s Gate 3 player skips Act 1 and explains the interesting results that followed
On Reddit, player u/Competitive-Hall6922 shared his experience. “Yesterday I decided to skip Act 1 as much as possible. I rushed towards the Mountain Pass, fleeing all the fighting. This gave interesting results.”
He noted that, despite missing part of the plot, the game catches up to you as best it can given the circumstances:
- Withered appears even if you don’t find it in its crypt.
- Raphael appears in the camp instead of interrupting your exploration.
- Four camp night story events take place at the same time.
- Minthara can be found in Highmoon Towers to be rescued since you didn’t kill her.
In the comments, Baldur’s Gate 3 players were impressed by the poster’s decision to try this all out in Honor Mode. However, they also noticed that they were missing things despite having played all of Act 1.
“On my first playthrough, I missed a LOT. I didn’t skip Act 1, but I didn’t find Wither, Mol, or Alfira. One day at camp, Wither appeared. At the Tieflings party, I was thinking, but who are these people? I was confused when Alfira acted like she knew me. And when Mol supported me at Derniere Lumière… But who are you??» explained a player.
In general, if you skip Act 1, it seems like some decisions are made for you and you don’t have as much control over the story as if you followed the quests. As another player noted, even the developers couldn’t have predicted someone trying this.
Finally, one player quipped: “Incredibly bold to play Baldur’s Gate 3 like this. The developers couldn’t have even planned properly for how much you didn’t care about Faerun. It rocks “.
