Fans are left wondering why they would choose any other subclass when one in Baldur’s Gate 3 has proven to be the “most broken class in the game.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 offers the amazing feature of creating a powerful character with virtually any class, race, and design. However, there is one option that stands out above the rest, garnering an intense level of obsession within the community.
The Monk’s subclass is the Way of the Open Hand, which centers on powerful yet straightforward punches. It is widely considered to be one of the strongest builds in Baldur’s Gate 3.
The sentiment was also expressed by the community on Reddit, where one player stated, “After playing as an OH Monk, the other subclasses seemed lackluster,”simultaneously criticizing other builds and applauding the formidable capabilities of this punch-focused subclass.
The Open Hand Monk is an extremely OP subclass to choose.
“The player mentioned attempting to play as a Shadow Monk Shadowheart and Four Elements Monk Gale in their current playthrough, following their successful Honor Run as an Open Hand Monk named Karlach. Despite trying to utilize them as Tavern Brawlers, the player found that the Open Hand version was superior in their experience.”
The explanation continued, citing the powerful combination of “Topple Flurries,”the ability to regenerate ki while gaining an additional bonus action, and the added damage from Manifestations. This makes it seem as though the other subclasses are lacking in comparison and may not offer any notable advantages over the Open Hand Monk.
The Open Hand Monk is a relatively easy subclass to excel in, particularly when facing opponents such as Sorcerers, Wizards, and other spellcasters. Their use of Ki and strategic punches is enough to completely defeat the enemy.
The OH Monk benefits from the impressive attacks of Flurry of Blows, as well as the added necrotic damage on some of their hits. Additionally, they can easily replenish hitpoints with Wholeness of Body and even trigger explosions with their punches.
Players were eager to concur, and some even suggested additional methods to further enhance the character’s strength: “I played as an Open Hand Tavern Brawler Monk with unarmed attacks and it was incredibly overpowered. I could traverse the entire map effortlessly, landing 4-5 hits per turn. Health was never a concern as I would apply buffs to my Monk before important battles to increase her durability.”
Some players shared their experiences in Honour Mode, recounting moments such as swapping out a character for Halsin just before the Act 2 finale. They respecced Halsin into a powerful OH Monk and Thief combination with Tavern Brawler, even though he had no gear or armor. Surprisingly, he was able to defeat Ketheric and Myrkul almost single-handedly with his incredible damage, high hit chance, and bonus action that could topple enemies. It was a remarkable feat that was hard to top.
Ultimately, by combining the Open Hand Monk and Tavern Brawler, you can create a formidable character reminiscent of One Punch Man or a superhero. It is definitely worth considering trying out this class combination in your next adventure or equipping one of your trusted companions with it.
