Black Myth: Wukong – Story and Gameplay Details
Story Details
The narrative of Black Myth: Wukong centers on Sun Wukong, also known as the Destined One and the Monkey King. The game is inspired by Journey to the West, a 16th-century Chinese novel. According to the original source, Sun Wukong was the top disciple of Buddhist Monk Tang Sanzang, and with the monk’s guidance, he attained ultimate power.
Aside from what can be inferred from the novel, no other details have been revealed about the game’s storyline. Nevertheless, there is a great deal of speculation surrounding the protagonist’s identity.
The novel reveals that Wukong possesses the ability to produce copies of himself, causing online players to speculate that the game’s main character is a clone who embarks on a separate journey. This theory arose as players combined various details, such as the wolf boss in the initial gameplay preview addressing the player character as “another monkey.”
The narrative of Black Myth seeks to expand upon the original story and potentially offer a different perspective on the tale of the Monkey King.
Details about the game
The gameplay of Black Myth: Wukong incorporates several elements commonly found in souls-like games. These include checkpoints placed throughout the game where players can rest and restore their health, gourds to replenish health and mana, and the drawback of respawning enemies in the area.
The game offers open-ended environments with branching paths, but it is not considered an open-world game. Challenging boss fights and mythical creatures can be found around every corner, along with enemies. While following the main path will progress the story, exploring every inch of the region may reveal hidden rewards.
The Monkey King’s gameplay showcases his incredible prowess in combat, thanks to his exceptional strength and speed. Trailers have also revealed Sun Wukong’s use of powerful abilities such as Transformation, Immobilization, and Stone Skin, all of which are a direct reflection of his blessed skills and powers.
The Staff is his preferred weapon and he has the ability to activate various combat stances, each tailored to different types of enemies. The gameplay mechanics are reminiscent of FromSoftware’s Sekiro, requiring precise timing for parries and dodges in order to defeat enemies. The game is presented in a third-person perspective, giving players a clear view of Wukong’s actions.
The game also offers character customization, allowing you to equip the Monkey King with a variety of armor that provides stat boosts.
