The Fascinating Journey of Jungkook’s Casting Story
In a recent interview, casting director Noh Min-mi opened up about the unique circumstances surrounding BTS’s Jungkook’s recruitment, revealing that he was signed without the conventional audition process.
A Memorable Encounter
During an interview with the Kajufriends YouTube channel on August 22, Noh Min-mi recounted her pivotal role in selecting both Jungkook and other members of BTS while working at Big Hit Entertainment. She defined her role as a casting director as akin to “finding raw gems and turning them into diamonds, ” emphasizing her responsibilities in scouting and training emerging talents.
First Impressions Matter
Discussing her initial involvement with BTS, Noh shared that it all began with Suga, who initially caught her attention with his unique charm and talent. However, she expressed that Jungkook was the very first trainee she personally recruited.

She vividly recalled a moment when she spotted him during his audition for Superstar K: “There were numerous casting directors present, but one boy instantly drew my attention. His bright eyes and adorable demeanor seemed to radiate a unique glow, almost as if fate had brought him to my notice.”
Breaking the Norm
In a departure from standard casting procedures, Noh immediately handed Jungkook her business card. Convinced of his potential, she reached out to his father without delay, proposing a direct contract instead of following traditional audition protocols.
“Typically, companies schedule audition dates, but I told his father, ‘Let’s sign him right away—he’s extraordinary, ‘” she explained. Despite multiple agencies showing interest and even waiting at Seoul Station, Jungkook’s father opted for Big Hit, an influential decision that would shape the future of K-pop.

A Sense of Destiny
Reflecting on her decision to recruit Jungkook, Noh described it as something almost magical: “It felt as if I were under a spell. I simply couldn’t let him slip away. The fact that I signed him without an audition continues to astonish me.”
Belief in Potential
Noh also discussed the early challenges faced by BTS, explaining, “During that time, they received little attention, but I was confident in their potential. Their dedication was remarkable; they practiced tirelessly, often wearing out their shoes. It was this commitment that led me to believe they would succeed.”
A Heartfelt Connection
Today, as BTS enjoys global fame, Noh expressed her enduring pride: “Whenever I see them now, they remind me of those same vibrant kids from their trainee days. Despite their status as international superstars, our conversations still feel grounded, and sometimes I forget just how famous they have become.”
This heartfelt narrative resonates with fans, emphasizing that Jungkook’s ascent to stardom was influenced not just by talent and diligence but also by serendipity and the right connections.
