BTS Breaks Records Ahead of Their Grand Return with ARIRANG
BTS is making headlines yet again, as their loyal fanbase sets the stage for an extraordinary comeback. The preorders for their eagerly awaited fifth studio album, ARIRANG, have soared to over 4.06 million copies within just a week of opening on January 16, as reported by distributor YG Plus. This monumental figure surpasses the preorder sales for their previous chart-topping album, MAP OF THE SOUL: 7, which amassed 3.42 million preorders in its inaugural week back in 2020, eventually crossing the 5 million mark in total sales.
The impressive preorder statistics highlight the immense anticipation surrounding BTS’s full-group return, marking their first ensemble activity in approximately 3 years and 9 months. Global music streaming service Spotify is also witnessing a surge in interest: ARIRANG notched up 1 million pre-saves in less than 48 hours, hitting 2 million by the fourth day. This raises intriguing questions about the possibility of surpassing Taylor Swift’s staggering record of nearly 6 million pre-saves for The Life of a Showgirl.

Furthermore, fan interaction is at an all-time high on the Weverse platform, with membership figures nearly tripling following the announcements of the ARIRANG album and the corresponding world tour.
Exciting Events Planned for March
BTS is primed to celebrate their full-group comeback through a spectacular live event scheduled for March 21 at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, which is expected to attract around 100, 000 fans. While Gwanghwamun has hosted large-scale music events before, this will mark the first solo concert by any artist at this iconic venue. The Seoul city government has given conditional approval for the event after conducting a thorough safety management assessment, with proactive planning aimed at optimizing exit strategies and mitigating traffic disruptions.
Additionally, the Korea Heritage Service has permitted preliminary filming at prominent historical sites, including Gyeongbokgung Palace and its surrounding areas, contingent upon the finalization of safety protocols. Authorities emphasize that crowd safety remains a paramount concern, with police and local officials actively collaborating on logistical details.

Global Reach of the Upcoming Live Stream
In addition to the live event, entertainment company HYBE plans to live-stream BTS’s entrance from Gyeongbokgung Palace to the stage at Gwanghwamun through various OTT platforms, aiming for an audience impact across 190 countries and an estimated reach of 300 million viewers, including around 50 million anticipated live viewers.
The World Tour That Follows
Beyond the spring performance, BTS is gearing up for their world tour, which is set to commence on April 9, 11, and 12 at Goyang Stadium in South Korea. The shows are anticipated to draw approximately 80, 000 fans over the three days, with fan club pre-sale tickets having already sold out. Due to overwhelming demand, additional international dates have been added in Tampa and Stanford, making BTS the second act after Coldplay to perform a solo concert at Stanford Stadium.
Following their engagement in Goyang, the tour will move to Tokyo Dome on April 17-18 before making its way across North America, Europe, South America, and Asia, ultimately covering 81 shows in 34 cities—marking a record for any K-pop world tour.
