DEADROP players abandon “dead” game after studio removes Dr Disrespect

The community surrounding DEADROP, the early access shooter from Midnight Society, is in a state of chaos following the removal of co-founder Dr Disrespect. This decision came after accusations emerged on social media regarding his 2020 Twitch ban.

Four years following the mysterious ban of Dr Disrespect, whose real name is Guy Beahm, accusations began to surface. Former Twitch employee Cody Conners hinted that the highly popular streamer had been caught engaging in inappropriate behavior with a minor using the platform’s whispers feature. Conners also claimed that the streamer had planned to meet with the minor at TwitchCon that year.

Despite the allegations, Dr Disrespect responded hours later and stated that the situation had been thoroughly investigated and resolved. He maintained his innocence and also revealed that Twitch had fulfilled the terms of his contract. Since the initial accusation by Conners, there have been no further publicized accusations or evidence. As a result, on June 24, Doc resumed streaming on YouTube with a livestream of Elden Ring.

During the live stream, the content creator appeared disheartened and looked away from the camera after reading something. Soon after, he announced that he would be taking a break from the public eye due to burnout. It was later discovered on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that he had been ousted from the gaming studio he helped establish, Midnight Society.

“After assuming his innocence, we initiated conversations with all parties involved,”shared the company’s X account. “In order to uphold our principles and standards, we were compelled to take action and terminate our relationship immediately.”

As the indie studio’s first release, DEADROP, Dr Disrespect played a crucial role as the public figure for the development team. He tirelessly promoted the early access shooter, teasing it as the studio’s “vertical extraction shooter,”making appearances at numerous events, and regularly sharing the latest updates through his platforms.

Before gaining fame, Dr Disrespect was already an experienced game developer who had worked on Activision’s Call of Duty series. He was one of the four co-founders of Midnight Society. As of writing, Beahm’s name is still listed as the first on the personnel page of Midnight Society’s website.

Dr Disrespect was one of four co-founders who helped Midnight Society get off the ground.

Due to his close connections with the studio and involvement in their current project, fans are expressing their dissatisfaction with Doc’s departure from the team.

The reason for their bitterness is often attributed to a lack of publicly available evidence. Despite claims from the Midnight Society that they have communicated directly with those involved and taken action based on their conversations, the failure to share these findings has caused many members of the community to stray.

One former fan expressed their disbelief at the sudden decision without any evidence being made public, stating, “This is a WILD move.”Another questioned the lack of adherence to the principle of “innocent before proven guilty,”as seen in a tweet by user @XMalibu69X.

Many players who have already invested in the project during its early access window are now considering selling off their founder’s passes. One former fan even expressed their disinterest in the studio, stating, “I have no interest in this studio anymore.”

“Without Doc, there is no midnight society,”another chimed in, declaring that the game was now dead in the water.

At the current moment, the OpenSea cryptocurrency platform has 53 DEADROP founders passes available for purchase. These passes are being sold at various prices, with the highest being 999 Ethereum (equivalent to around $3,350 USD) and the lowest being 0.025 Ethereum (equivalent to approximately $84 USD).

Over 50 players are selling off their early access admission, though not all are guaranteed to be in light of Doc’s removal.

A number of devoted followers on Doc’s personal subreddit expressed similar views, claiming that DEADROP would fail to make an impact without their beloved personality at the forefront.

Despite this stance, there are some who disagree and instead choose to look at the bigger picture and support the remaining developers still involved in the project.

“Despite the difficult circumstances, an avid fan expressed on X that this was never solely about one person or any individual. Regardless of the outcome, this is a collective game and world for all of us.”

Currently, there have been no additional statements from the co-founders or developers of Midnight Society regarding the removal of Dr Disrespect. It is believed that the content creator ended his June 24 livestream shortly after learning the news, and it remains uncertain when or if he will return to streaming.
