Submersion is the second Combat Bow introduced in Destiny 2, offering unique features that make it a coveted addition to any Guardian’s arsenal. However, acquiring this weapon can be a bit of a challenge.

Launched in the mid-season update “Ash & Iron, ”part of the Edge of Fate expansion, Submersion stands out as the only crossbow available outside of raid encounters. This accessibility makes it a notable option for players looking to diversify their loadouts.

This formidable weapon doesn’t just boast accessibility; it also comes equipped with powerful perks that particularly appeal to fans of the Stasis subclass. Even if you’re not currently utilizing Darkness abilities, Submersion presents a range of functionalities that can enhance your overall gameplay experience.

Optimal Submersion Loadouts: PvE and PvP Strategies

In light of a shifting meta where select Special weapons are edging closer to the potency of Heavy weapons, players may often feel inclined to stick with Swords for their enhanced mobility. Similarly, the high uptime of various abilities has led to a decline in the popularity of Rocket and Grenade Launchers.

Submersion serves as an excellent alternative for players seeking a reliable fire-and-forget DPS tool. Combat Bows are designed for sustained damage rather than quick bursts, utilizing the unique Persistence stat to maintain a lodged bolt in enemies for ongoing tick damage.

To optimize Submersion’s performance, equipping Empowered Rail enhances Persistence, while Charged Bolts improves tick damage. This combination ensures that you can maximize your damage output effectively.

Since you’ll want to focus on other DPS sources between shots, the Auto-Loading Holster perk allows for seamless weapon swapping and automatic reloading. This lets you unleash additional bolts before returning to your preferred Special weapon—likely a Rocket Launcher or Pulse Rifle. For the secondary perk slot, Chill Clip synergizes excellently with Stasis, delivering even greater damage over time.

While Combat Bows have yet to carve out a significant niche in the PvP landscape, Submersion can still hold its own with combinations like Impulse Amplifier and either Chill Clip or High Ground. That said, you may find finding better success by opting for a Sword or Machine Gun instead.

How to Acquire Submersion

To obtain Submersion, you’ll want to partake in Weekly Events. Following the wrap-up of the Reclaim launch event for Ash & Iron, this Combat Bow can be randomly dropped during Iron Banner matches. However, be advised that once Iron Banner ends on September 23, you’ll need to wait for the next Weekly Event to have another opportunity to get Submersion drops.
