Destiny 2’s 12-player Grandmaster activity has already been beaten solo

The first 12-player activity in Destiny 2 was successfully completed by a single player on its most challenging setting in less than 24 hours since its introduction in the game.

With the weekly reset on June 18, Grandmaster Excision was released, offering Fireteams new rewards and an even more difficult challenge to overcome.

The mission, which concludes The Final Shape’s Salvation’s Edge Raid, serves as the ultimate encounter with The Witness. The Grandmaster difficulty version introduces Champions, limited revives, and more challenging Power Caps compared to its easier counterpart.

It is evident that certain Guardians possess unique abilities, as demonstrated by Destiny 2 streamer Esoterickk who successfully conquered The Witness without the assistance of 11 other players.

The key to success is the Hunter class. While it is possible for a Warlock or Titan to clear Excision solo, the footage shown above suggests that the achievement heavily depends on Hunter’s Void subclass and the Exotic helmet Graviton Forfeit, allowing for near-constant invisibility.

In terms of weapons, there was no universal loadout that worked for all situations. Esoterickk frequently switched between different weapons during the encounter, including Wish-Ender, Witherhoard, and Outbreak Perfected. The latter was particularly effective during damage phases against The Witness.

The community’s response to the achievement has been unsurprisingly marked with admiration.

One comment on Reddit states, “It’s truly insane to even consider attempting it,” while another adds, “I never thought anyone could do it solo, but he proved me wrong.”

It has yet to be determined if Esoterickk is the first player to defeat GM Excision solo. Bungie did not organize a competition for the challenge and has not addressed this specific accomplishment.

Regardless of the size of their Fireteam, anyone who successfully defeats Grandmaster Excision will be rewarded with the Catalyst for the Exotic sword Ergo Sum.
