Female Idol’s Stalker to Face Appeal Trial in July: Please Accept Me as Your Butler

On June 7th, the legal community announced that the Seoul Central District Court will conduct the initial appeal hearing for A, a woman accused of breaking the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, on July 9th. A was given a suspended one-year prison sentence in the first hearing, along with a 100,000 won fine and requirements to complete 120 hours of community service, probation, and 40 hours of classes on preventing future stalking crimes.

A was charged with sending a combined 544 text messages to Jung Eun-ji between March 2020 and July 2021, including messages like “Will you allow me to be your butler and companion?”In addition, A allegedly followed Jung Eun-ji’s car from KBS headquarters to a hair and makeup shop in Gangnam, Seoul on her motorcycle in May 2020. In July 2021, A was discovered loitering outside the apartment building where Jung Eun-ji resided.

The initial court case concluded that the messages sent by the defendant to the victim exceeded the typical expressions of admiration, curiosity and fondness that a fan may convey towards a celebrity.
