A Florida resident, 53-year-old Craig Vogt from Hudson, has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after making a shocking confession: he killed and consumed his own pet peacocks. This extreme act stemmed from a dispute with his neighbor, who he believed was interfering with his ownership of the birds.
According to reports from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, Vogt owned a number of peacocks that roamed freely on his property. His conflict with the neighbor escalated after she disregarded his repeated warnings about feeding the birds. The tension between them had been mounting prior to this incident, leading to an unfortunate and drastic conclusion.

.
The situation came to light when, on September 21, the neighbor discovered a letter in her mailbox from Vogt, detailing his gruesome actions. He recounted how he had killed two peacocks by cutting their throats, and subsequently prepared and ate them. Upon questioning by deputies, he affirmed the account, stating he was motivated by anger towards the neighbor’s interference.
Legal Action for Cruelty
Following this revelation, law enforcement officials arrested Vogt and charged him with aggravated cruelty to animals, specifying that the act inflicted excessive pain and death. Court documents reveal he was booked into the Pasco County Jail with a $25, 000 bond and has been assigned a public defender. The complaint further alleges that Vogt threatened to slaughter the remainder of his peacocks to deter anyone else from feeding them.
At his initial court appearance, Vogt remained in custody and has not yet entered a plea regarding the charges. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has validated these details, which were first covered by Fox 13 Tampa Bay.
