A former developer from the Grand Theft Auto franchise has revealed that Rockstar Games may require something akin to “magic” to fulfill a particular feature that fans are eagerly anticipating in GTA 6.
The anticipation surrounding the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 has reached unprecedented heights. Dedicated fans have spent years scouring for any hints or insights from Rockstar Games, making the wait all the more intense.
Unfortunately, the wait has now been extended; Rockstar recently announced a delay for the game until May 26, 2026, indicating that they need additional time to meet the high expectations of their fanbase.
Debate Surrounding Frame Rates in GTA 6
One of the most requested features from fans is the ability for the game to run at 60 frames per second (FPS), a significant upgrade from the 30 FPS that has been the standard for the most recent console generations.
Obbe Vermeij, a former developer at Rockstar, expressed skepticism about meeting this FPS goal. In a conversation with YouTuber KiwiTalkz earlier this July, he suggested that it would take extraordinary efforts to transition to 60 FPS.
“I would guess it would probably be 30. It’s like a curse; we can’t get rid of it. Everybody says ‘oh, make it 60 then, ’ but you end up at a trade-off. If you have 10 characters on-screen and it doesn’t look busy enough, you need 50 characters, which could lead to a drop in frame rate.” “It’s probably a sensible choice to stick with 30, but maybe they will conjure some magic to achieve 60.”

Vermeij also pointed out that casual gamers typically don’t mind the standard lower frame rate, while competitive players are unlikely to engage with GTA in the first place. Additionally, he predicted that the development of GTA 7 would be less resource-intensive than GTA 6, forecasting that advancements in artificial intelligence could streamline the creation of cutscenes.
