Fortnite is set to introduce an exciting new cosmetic type known as Sidekicks, which feature fixed designs. If you wish to alter their appearance, you’ll need to purchase a new Sidekick and start fresh with a different character model.
Renowned for transforming the live-service gaming framework, Fortnite has captivated audiences worldwide with its continual collaborations and high-profile characters. Iconic personalities, from Art the Clown to Ninja, have been integrated into the game’s diverse roster, a key factor in keeping players immersed.
To maintain this momentum, Fortnite consistently introduces innovative cosmetic categories. Earlier this year, players were introduced to Kicks, enabling them to purchase unique footwear options. Now, a brand new category is on the horizon.
Sidekicks will officially debut on November 1, 2025, coinciding with the launch of the latest season of The Simpsons. These smaller NPC companions will follow players throughout various game modes, showcasing dynamic reactions to the environment. However, customization of their appearance requires purchasing additional versions.

Understanding the Functionality of Sidekicks in Fortnite
The inaugural Sidekick will be available on November 1, followed by a plethora of additional options arriving a week later. Once a player acquires a Sidekick using V-Bucks, they will be featured alongside their character in all game modes, with the exception of Rocket Racing.
Upon purchase, these Sidekicks can be partially customized; however, their design will be permanently locked once you settle on a look. As highlighted in a Fortnite blog, this mirrors the customization system used for the Specialist Maya skin from Chapter 2 Season 2, but with one significant difference.
While players can freely change the name and accessories of their Sidekick, the inherent appearance cannot be altered. For instance, if you decide to acquire a Sidekick modeled after a dog, you can only customize its name and clothing but not its physical traits.
What are your options if you wish to change any aspect of your Sidekick? Unfortunately, the only recourse is to purchase another variant of the same Sidekick, emphasizing the game’s approach to cosmetic monetization.

Notably, Sidekicks will remain immune to damage inflicted by opposing players.
Unsurprisingly, the announcement of new cosmetics has sparked mixed reactions from the Fortnite community, with some labeling it as “next-level greed”on platforms such as Reddit.
One user exclaimed, “Are you serious? Just keep them.” Another echoed dissatisfaction on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Having us buy a Sidekick AGAIN just to change its fur color is not acceptable.”

For players keen on having a Sidekick, be it a dog, fish, or even a dinosaur by their side while crafting elaborate structures, it’s crucial to ensure you’re satisfied with its design upon purchase. Remember, once you buy a Sidekick’s design, it’s here to stay—unless you’re willing to pay for adjustments.
