In a surprising turn of events, Ghostface has made a startling return. The much-anticipated first trailer for Scream 7 has been released online after years of speculation, leaving fans to wonder about the potential comeback of a notorious killer in Woodsboro.
The trailer presents a menacing Ghostface who ominously declares a desire to “burn it all down, ”as Sydney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) once again finds herself fighting for survival. This time, the stakes are even higher, as the new killer sets their sights on Sidney’s daughter, Tatum (Isabel May), making the threats more personal than ever.
Earlier in 2023, the film encountered controversy when Melissa Barrera, who portrays Sam Carpenter, was dismissed by Spyglass Entertainment. Reports indicated that her termination stemmed from her social media comments regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict, leading to further complications, including Jenna Ortega‘s exit from the project.
The trailer notably centers on Sidney as her family is pursued by Ghostface, confirming fan theories about significant character returns that have been eagerly speculated upon.
Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher Makes a Chilling Comeback
In addition to showcasing Sidney’s return, the trailer hints at the return of Matthew Lillard’s infamous Stu Macher, whose presence looms large within the franchise. Although he doesn’t appear physically, the trailer concludes with his eerie voice declaring, “This is gonna be fun.”
Fans quickly took to the comments, with many convinced that the voice is unmistakably Lillard’s. Comments included assertions like, “That’s 1, 000, 000% Matthew Lillard’s voice at the end, ” while others pointed out that 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the original Scream, making Stu’s return seem like a fitting tribute.
The trailer kicks off with a scene featuring a couple in an Airbnb, the very house where Stu once resided, before the ominous Ghostface makes his deadly entrance. If the speculations prove correct, it appears that Stu is back to reclaim the dark legacy he left with Billy Loomis.
In addition to Lillard, Courteney Cox reprises her role as Gale Weathers, joining Sidney in her fight against Ghostface. The Meeks-Martin twins, portrayed by Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, also make their return, shown observing a news report detailing the recent Ghostface murders.
