Guide to Completing the Dead Drop Kill Challenge in Sniper Elite: Resistance

In the first Kill List challenge of Sniper Elite: Resistance, players are tasked with eliminating Philo Beck during the Dead Drop mission using a Rat Bomb. However, at the mission’s start, you won’t have this essential item available, necessitating a series of steps to secure it before accomplishing the assassination.

Every mission in Sniper Elite: Resistance is filled with optional objectives, including Kill List challenges, where a high-value target is identified. While you have the freedom to eliminate them in various ways, the key to unlocking special rewards lies in utilizing specific methods for each target. Your initial target is Philo Beck, located in St. Raymund, where you must dispose of him using a Rat Bomb. Here’s a comprehensive guide to achieving this objective efficiently.

Philo Beck is stationed in a cafe toward the center of the level, right outside the grand entrance of a castle-like fortress in St. Raymund. By positioning yourself at a vantage point on the opposing buildings, you’ll notice Beck often conversing with another soldier. He occasionally ventures outside for a brief patrol, providing you with opportunities for either a precise sniper elimination or a stealthy approach.

However, to unlock the Nagant M1895 as a reward, you must eliminate him using a Rat Bomb. As you begin the mission without this crucial item, your initial task is to track one down.

Acquiring a Rat Bomb

  1. Proceed to the church to collect Vertigo’s dead drop.
  2. This action will unveil a secret tunnel beneath Liberty Gardens.
  3. Locate the door and descend the staircase.
  4. Enter the first room on your right.
  5. The Rat Bomb can be found on a barrel to the left as you enter.

The Rat Bomb is cleverly concealed in a hidden tunnel beneath Liberty Gardens, accessible only after you have successfully retrieved Vertigo’s dead drop.

Your primary objective is to collect this drop, which is marked on your map and found inside the church. Ascend to the highest level while dealing with the German sniper positioned in the tower, and behind a painting on the wall, you will uncover the drop.

This dead drop contains a note from Vertigo, revealing details about the underground tunnel, which will subsequently be marked on your in-game map. Stealthily navigate to the tunnel, utilizing the tall grass for cover, and you’ll be able to unlock the door.

Upon entering, descend the stairs and check the first room on your right. In this room, you’ll find Vertigo’s lifeless body along with the Rat Bomb positioned atop a barrel next to the entrance. Interact with it to acquire the item, setting you up for the final stage of the challenge.

Executing the Kill Challenge with the Rat Bomb

  1. Sneak into the cafe where Philo Beck is located.
  2. Make your way behind the cafe’s counter.
  3. Carefully place the Rat Bomb on the designated spot.
  4. Wait for Beck to notice it and enjoy the ensuing explosion.

Strategically setting the Rat Bomb requires stealth, as it must be positioned in a specific area behind the counter of the cafe. You can utilize a tunnel located in the structure behind the cafe to sneak in, but it’s crucial to either clear the room of enemies beforehand or precisely time your movements when foes are outside.

Using a bottle to create a distraction can be an effective strategy, as it allows you a few crucial seconds to position the bomb. After the enemy has investigated the noise, they will typically resume their posts, granting you the perfect opportunity to escape to safety.

Once everything is in place, the Rat Bomb will attract Beck’s attention. However, before he can act upon his curiosity, the device will detonate, thereby successfully completing the Kill List challenge. Notably, you do not need to be in close proximity for the explosion to happen, so you can continue your operations elsewhere while awaiting the blast.
