A Helldivers 2 player has a truly unique setup with a dance mat as a controller for calling Stratagems.
Helldivers 2 is the surprise hit of early 2024. It quickly attracted a large number of players and fans. Of course, when a PC game becomes popular, modders come along and come up with all sorts of new things. So, one player has designed a truly unique control scheme that involves a Dance Dance Revolution dance mat controller.
Usually, Helldivers 2 players have access to a variety of requests they can make of their ship, ranging from simple resupply to powerful airstrikes. These are called Stratagems and are activated using a series of directional button inputs.
Keyboard gamers often use the directional keys or ZQSD for this. Each Stratagem in Helldivers 2 has a unique entry code that resembles a special move sequence or indeed, the moves of dance titles like Dance Dance Revolution.

Redditor Zerrul noticed this similarity and decided to use it to create an interesting control method in Helldivers 2 with a dance mat. In the video, we see him standing in front of his PC with a DDR dance mat under his feet. As he steps on the buttons in order, the Stratagem activates.

Comments say the unusual setup “actually worked pretty well.”Comments on the post on Reddit and TikTok were mostly impressed and amused. Some were trying to come up with a name for the setup, like “Dance Dance Libération” or “Dance Dance for the Revolution.” One response from TikTok even said “It’s a lot easier than a controller, to be honest.”
As Helldivers 2 makes its way into the hearts of players, we can expect this to be just the beginning in terms of community-developed mods and innovations. If this signals the color of future ideas, we may well have access to some particularly entertaining mods.
