Hollow Knight: Silksong has made a staggering impact in the gaming community, breaking records on platforms like Steam and Twitch. Its launch has attracted enthusiastic acclaim, notably from Hololive CEO Motoaki Tanigo, affectionately known in the gaming world as YAGOO, who recently commended Team Cherry for their accomplishment.

Team Cherry’s eagerly anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight has quickly established itself as one of the standout releases of 2025, reaching over 500, 000 concurrent players on Steam at its peak. The combination of high player interest and digital store traffic was so intense that it momentarily disrupted online storefront operations.

On Twitch, Silksong dominated the streaming charts, captivating hundreds of thousands of viewers and earning the title of the most-watched game during its launch day. Player reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with Steam showcasing more than 15, 000 reviews categorized as “Overwhelmingly Positive” just within the first 24 hours of its release.

YAGOO’s Commendation of Silksong

In a recent post on LinkedIn, Tanigo reflected on Team Cherry’s humble beginnings. He reminisced about the skepticism the team faced when they first revealed the trailer for the original Hollow Knight on Reddit, where many anticipated its failure:

“When Team Cherry, a small indie developer team from South Australia, shared the trailer for their first game, Hollow Knight, on Reddit, they received many negative comments predicting the game would be an obvious failure.”

Tanigo proceeded to highlight Hollow Knight’s remarkable sales, which have surpassed 15 million copies, marking it as one of the most successful indie titles to date. He emphasized Silksong’s record-breaking follow-up launch as a testament to what can be achieved through dedication and vision:

“They had a dream and a vision. While listening to all feedback, negative and positive, they believed in their project and made it a reality, achieving even more than they could have ever dreamed.”

The Hololive CEO noted the swift engagement of Hololive talents who are now actively streaming Silksong on YouTube. Reflecting on his own journey, he remarked, “For us at COVER, we might be in our ‘Hollow Knight’ era compared to our beginnings, but look forward to our ‘Silksong’ one.”

The release of Silksong marks a pivotal moment in 2025, resonating not just with gamers but also capturing the attention of those interested in this year’s most significant gaming milestones.
