If the green light is given for Avatar 4 by 20th Century Studios and Disney, there’s an acclaimed horror director ready to step in, bringing a unique flair to the franchise. This director’s impressive portfolio indicates they possess the skill set required for such a monumental project.

The narrative of Avatar: Fire and Ash centers on the Sully family as they navigate the emotional turmoil following the death of their son, Neteyam, portrayed by Jamie Flatters. Meanwhile, Colonel Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang, aligns himself with Varang (Oona Chaplin), the ruthless leader of the Mangkwan clan, which significantly enhances the RDA’s threat against the Na’vi.

By the conclusion of the third installment, the Sullys successfully fend off the RDA once again, leaving Quaritch seemingly defeated. However, the conflict on Pandora continues to unfold, and an iconic horror director has expressed interest in directing Avatar 4 if James Cameron decides to take a step back.

James Wan, known for his remarkable contributions to the horror genre through franchises like Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring, has stated his desire to helm Avatar 4 should Cameron choose to step aside. His acclaimed filmography also includes blockbuster hits such as Aquaman and Furious 7.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant during Peacock’s The Copenhagen Test, Wan expressed his enthusiasm for adding Avatar to his repertoire of franchises. He remarked, “I have not done Avatar. Yeah, if you could put a good one for me with James Cameron, I’d love to take a crack at that.”

With a history of box office triumphs—The Conjuring franchise alone has amassed over $2.8 billion, and the Saw franchise has generated more than $1 billion, alongside Aquaman reaching the same milestone—Wan appears to be a fitting choice for steering Avatar 4 towards similar successes.

That said, it remains uncertain if Cameron plans to relinquish his directorial reins for the fourth movie. In a December interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron expressed his intent to direct the next installment while considering a more collaborative approach. He stated: “I’m not saying I’m going to step away as a director, but I’m going to pull back from being as hands-on with every tiny aspect of the process.”

As anticipation builds for Avatar 4, fans should keep an eye on the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash on Disney+, explore insights from Stephen Lang about the parallels between Quaritch and Jake, and examine James Cameron’s perspective on AI actors in the film industry.
