Is Deku Quirkless again in My Hero Academia manga? Explained

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, the spoilers and raw scans for chapter 422 of Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia manga series were released. Although these were not officially released by Shueisha, the series’ spoiler process has consistently been proven to be accurate, instilling confidence in fans that these latest details are also accurate.

Similarly, there is a buzz among fans as they discuss the supposed spoilers for the newest My Hero Academia installment, where protagonist Izuku “Deku”Midoriya’s ultimate battle against All For One carries on. Deku’s comrades are also by his side, aiding in the fight and even strategically protecting him and setting him up for the decisive strike throughout the chapter.

Despite this latest issue, some My Hero Academia fans are still confused. They had previously believed that Deku had lost the One For All Quirk and was unable to continue fighting. As a result, fans are now seeking definitive answers about Deku’s current Quirk status in the manga.

My Hero Academia: Deku’s Use of One For All’s Embers

Regrettably, the My Hero Academia manga has revealed that Deku no longer possesses the One For All Quirk factor, as well as the other Quirk factors it contained. Although Deku is still utilizing One For All to deliver a decisive strike against All For One, it is stated that he is doing so with the remaining “embers”of the Quirk. Essentially, Deku is employing One For All in a manner reminiscent of All Might’s final battle on Kamino, when he utilized the full extent of the Quirk’s powers.

Similarly, statements made by both All Might and All For One about the state of Deku during this period of time serve as confirmation that he no longer possesses the complete One For All Quirk. This is due to the fact that he deliberately transferred the Quirk, along with all of its associated factors, to Tomura Shigaraki in an attempt to harm his mental state and potentially allow the Tenko Shimura persona to resurface.

Despite the plan’s failure, it is worth mentioning that Deku had only recently relinquished control of One For All. This is why he is able to utilize the Quirk with such strength, as seen in his Full Cowling state in My Hero Academia chapter 422. Even without using Full Cowling, it is noteworthy that his embers burn much brighter and with greater intensity than All Might’s did during the Kamino Ward incident.

Similarly, Deku is determined to fight even though he no longer possesses the complete One For All Quirk. Despite this, the remaining power of the Quirk is still enough for him to defeat All For One. However, using this power to defeat All For One may result in the Quirk leaving Deku completely, just as it did for All Might after the events at Kamino Ward.

Despite this, there are fan-theories suggesting that Deku may regain the One For All Quirk by the end of the series. However, as of chapter 422, it is confirmed without a doubt that Deku is currently Quirkless.
