Christopher Daniel Barnes’ comments about a possible Spider-Man ’98 show, triggered by his cameo in X-Men ’97, rekindled conversations about the web-slinger’s potential return to television.
The eighth episode of X-Men ’97, titled ‘Tolerance Is Extinction, Pt. 1,’ included a short appearance from Spider-Man among other exciting cameos. Despite only being shown swinging across a rooftop for a brief moment, the internet was quickly abuzz with excitement over the web-slinger’s cameo.
Fans of Marvel’s popular animated shows from the 1990s are eagerly hoping for a revival of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which first aired in 1994. There is a strong desire for a continuation that would continue the story from where the original series ended, similar to the upcoming X-Men ’97.
Despite the silence from Marvel and Disney, Christopher Daniel Barnes, the voice actor for 90s Spider-Man, has addressed the issue. In a recent tweet, Barnes showed appreciation for the support from fans and stated his willingness to reprise his role if Marvel decides to produce the highly desired Spider-Man ’98.
Despite expressing his interest, the experienced actor who played Spider-Man has not been informed about any potential involvement in the project. In a statement, Barnes stated, “I would be thrilled to be a part of such an incredible opportunity! However, I have not been approached by anyone regarding this opportunity and I currently have no affiliation with the X-Men 9 production.”
Executive Producer of X-Men ’97, Beau DeMayo, has officially confirmed that the Spidey appearing in ‘Tolerance Is Extinction, Pt. 1′ is the beloved hero from The Animated Series. While this may hint at potential crossovers in the future, Barnes’ statement implies that this specific iteration of the character may not be getting his own series anytime soon.
