Twitch streamer itsKatchii recently faced criticism following a controversial gesture made during an OTK Chinese New Year celebration. The incident occurred on February 4, when members of the popular streaming group OTK came together for a live event rich in traditional cultural activities, including a dragon dance.

During the festivities, Katchii executed a salute that was met with immediate disapproval from viewers, resulting in widespread outrage across social media platforms. This sparked a flurry of comments and discussions among fans, and clips of the incident were swiftly removed from Twitch, prompting further calls for accountability from netizens.

Apology and Reflections on Accountability

In response to the backlash, Katchii took to her Discord channel the following day to offer an explanation. She revealed that she had been drinking during the event and has since decided to abstain from alcohol in the future.

“What I did was stupid, and if there’s anything I learned from this, it’s that I cannot handle alcohol even in the slightest — I’m quitting, ” she admitted. Katchii expressed regret over her actions, stating, “I was trying to be funny, but obviously I was insensitive and just plain dumb.”

She further detailed her struggle with the pressures of being a public figure, sharing, “Now that I’m a public figure, I should be more responsible for what I say and do… it is hard being online, especially when you’re constantly compared and criticized for every single thing you do.”

Katchii ultimately issued a formal apology, denying any affiliation with hate groups and expressing bewilderment at the existence of hatred toward others based on their identity.

Having joined OTK in late 2024, Katchii’s channel remains active, boasting over 112K followers as of now. However, there is potential for Twitch to intervene, considering the platform’s Hateful Conduct policy, which outlines stringent guidelines on acceptable behavior.
