The much-discussed spinoff of the beloved sitcom Friends, titled Joey, was abruptly canceled during its second season. However, fans can now rejoice as the previously unaired episodes are finally accessible for viewing.

Friends remains a cornerstone of television history, celebrated for its humor and charm, and continues to draw substantial audiences on various streaming platforms. Given its massive popularity, a spinoff centering on the lovable yet goofy Joey Tribbiani, portrayed by Matt LeBlanc, felt like a natural extension to the franchise.

Although Joey produced a total of 46 episodes, only 38 were originally aired. The series, set against the backdrop of Los Angeles, features Joey’s attempts to reignite his acting career as he reconnects with his sister Gina (Drea de Matteo) and his smart nephew Michael (Paul Costanzo). Now, the eight unaired episodes have been unveiled, providing a chance for fans to enjoy the complete narrative.

The final eight episodes of Joey are now available for free on the Friends YouTube channel, joining the previously aired episodes. This is a wonderful opportunity for viewers to experience the entirety of the series.

The show premiered with much anticipation in September 2004, attracting a staggering 18.6 million viewers. Unfortunately, its popularity waned, leading to its cancellation midway through its second season.

The lost episodes include:

  • Episode 39: ‘Joey and the Dad’
  • Episode 40: ‘Joey and the Party for Alex’
  • Episode 41: ‘Joey and the Big Move’
  • Episode 42: ‘Joey and the Beard’
  • Episode 43: ‘Joey and the Critic’
  • Episode 44: ‘Joey and the Actor’s Studio’
  • Episode 45: ‘Joey and the Holding Hands’
  • Episode 46: ‘Joey and the Wedding’

Reflecting on the show’s decline, Executive Producer Kevin S. Bright suggested that the character of Joey underwent an unfortunate transformation. In an interview with The Age in 2006, he noted, “On Friends, Joey was a charming womanizer, someone we loved to root for. But in the spinoff, he became a caricature of himself, struggling with his career and personal life, ultimately losing the essence that made him relatable.”
