On Saturday, June 29, 2024, the official announcement of Kaiju No. 8 season 2 came immediately after the airing of the first season’s 12th and final episode on the same day. A promotional video of approximately 15 seconds was then released on TOHO Animation’s official YouTube channel, confirming the production of the second season.
In the promotional video, it was revealed that voice actor Koki Uchiyama will be joining the cast of Kaiju No. 8 season 2 as Captain Gen Narumi of the First Division. Uchiyama’s voice can be heard in the trailer, commanding the First Division to take action when a Kaiju alert is sounded.
Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Production Confirmed, Release Date Not Yet Revealed
Despite the thrilling news of Kaiju No. 8 season 2 being confirmed and the addition of Gen Narumi to the cast, the recent announcement did not provide any information or hints about when the sequel will be released. This is a bit disappointing for fans who were anticipating a second consecutive season or a same-year return for the Fall 2024 anime lineup.
Considering the absence of these advancements, it can be inferred that the sequel will debut in 2025. A release in either Spring or Summer of 2025 is probable, as it would allow the production team approximately a full year to work on the sequel, assuming that production had already commenced before the recent announcement.
Despite the timing of the announcement, the confirmation of Narumi’s casting, and Uchiyama’s role as Narumi in the PV, no release window or date has been confirmed at the time of writing this article. However, it is probable that the aforementioned window will be the release period.
In the upcoming months, fans can anticipate the announcement of new cast and staff for the sequel season. While it is unlikely that there will be significant changes to the staff at the time of writing, a change in the animation studio could result in necessary adjustments to the team. It is also highly anticipated that the original cast from season 1 will return in full for the sequel anime.
The second season of Kaiju No. 8 will continue the story from the television anime based on the manga series of the same name by author and illustrator Naoya Matsumoto. The manga has been regularly serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital publication platform since its initial release in July 2020.
The story takes place in a world where frequent disasters are caused by creatures known as Kaiju. Japan, which has the highest number of Kaiju attacks, has formed the Kaiju Defense Force to defend against these creatures. The main character, Kafka Hibino, is determined to join the Kaiju Defense Force in order to fulfill a promise he made to his childhood friend and the Third Division Captain, Mina Ashiro.
